Default Worst Day Ever!!! (alternator)

So I was on my way to Talladega Superspeedway for a track drive kinda thing in my WS6. I was excited as I was hoping to reach my goal of 160 mph. It's about a 2 1/2 drive to the track from my house, and what do ya know?

I had already gone through the tunnel (which really got my blood pumping as I revved all the way through) and was navigating through the infield to the area where my laps were to start. I look down and all my gauges are dead; Tach, Speedo, fuel, temp, everything. The car is still running, and for some reason I cut it off.

Turns out my alternator went bad right then. On the infield of Talladega Superspeedway, before I even go to do my laps. Luckily I had stopped the car in a rather photogenic location and got some decent pics before the tow truck arrived.

I dont really see that as being that bad of a day, it could have been much worse, it just ruined your excitement a little, atleast you live 2 1/2 miles from the track and can come again, and look at those amazing picture you got out of it.

Yea sounds like it wasnt a pleasent day..but just an alternator going out shouldn't be a worst day ever lol. Once you start to blow big money engines and stuff like that, you will have real worst days.

Slamming into is kinda worse I think.
Now the idler bearing deciding to quit and seizing up and taking out the belt and alt at midnight on the hiway in 10* is worse

Well maybe not the worst day ever, but the timing of the whole thing is what made it miserable. Of all days and places it chose the day I was to run at Talladega after I had already driven there .

Cool that you are going to get to some laps there BUt before you do I would get some professional advice from someone that races at the track how to protect the rear. As you are going around that track ALL the rearend oil is going to sling its way out of the center of the rear and end up in the outter axle tube STARVING the gears and bearings for oil. Not a good day at the track when a few miles down the road the rear has failed.

This has happened many times when the power tour etc has stopped at tracks and guys take laps. Do yourself a favor and find out what you need to do before running around there.
