After seeing Chrs1313 pick up 30 ft.lbs in the mid range I decided its time to swap out this cheap setup for something that flows alot smoother....

The old y-merge necked down from 3in to 2 5/8 at the merge... the new setup is 3in into a 3.5 inch.

With the old setup I blew compressed air down the right bank tube and air blew out both the outlet and the left bank side... after welding up the new y merge I did the same test....When I blew compressed air down the right bank tube it created a vacuum on the opposite bank, should help scavange alot better

Total weight savings wasn't as much as I was hoping , but it was some.

Old catback was 35lbs, new setup is 18lbs, so 17lbs, not to bad as long as I gain 10-15 hp at the dyno...

Interesting... did you make that custom or did you buy part of it already made?

I bought it all in sections from this place...the muffler is a flowmaster race outlaw, and I'm also adding a magna flow on the end of it, more pics to come

The flowmaster outlaw muffler is a straight through design with ring welded into the inner parts to lower sounds by only 2-3 db. Very loud, thats why I will be adding the magna flow. I mainly wanted the flowmaster to rid the system from rasp.

Do you have a link to where Chris1313 experimented with this? Did he gain 30 ft lbs from just switching the y-pipe collector or the entire style of exhaust system?

According to the link, he went from QTP 1 3/4 headers with a shitty ypipe to ARH 1 7/8 headers with a high quality ypipe. So I'm guessing that he gained from both of those changes.

That new Y pipe is much nicer. I don't know why companies don't make them like that to start with.

I'd have to say it because of cost, and maily that people want a slip fit without welding, if you wanted to go bigger then 2 5/8...factory slip size to the catback, you would need to cut the old section off and re-weld, but it would be well worth it
