Starter Problem...Need Serious Help!!

Default Starter Problem...Need Serious Help!!
so last night my starter took a sh.t on me..i knew it was coming.. so when my brother went under the car to get the old one out he said one of the bolts was pretty loose..so he takes out the bolt that goes on the trans then all of a sudden the stater fell out..come to find out the hole that the second bolt goes into on the block cracked off...we managed to get the new starter up but its being held by one bolt...the second bolt is on and holding in place on the broken hole.

Has this happened to anyone else? if so whats the fix besides a new block?

A new block.

j/k

When I hydrolocked an engine I broke the tab for the starter. JB weld got it back in place for a bit, finding someone who can weld it properly though is more important.

How did you manage to break it though? As I said, I had to hydrolock an engine to do it.

I would pull the motor and have someone tig weld the hole up for you, then re-install the engine. Any yeah, you aren't the first person to have this happen. Seems to be more common now-a-days.

the starter did this all on its own....i dont have the piece anymore...i kno people can weld with the motor in the car still....what other options is there?

How do you mean the starter did this on its own? You didn't say the starter was actually cracked. Thats the only way the starter woulda been responsible and I would still suspect something else as the underlying cause. The fix is to have someone repair it by TIG welding or replace the block. Thats it.

I just had the same thing happen to me and I am looking for a solution too. Here are some pictures to better explain what happened. The car has 131,000 miles on it and NO engine modes whatsoever. Driven in the spring, summer and fall.

Have either one of you had this done or seen it done? I'll have to research this "tig weld", as I have never heard of that. I'm a shade tree mechanic so I haven't heard of a lot of things.

I haven't personally had this issue, but a nice tig weld should hold that piece together for awhile. I think it would be your cheapest route for getting this fixed.

I wasnt meaning it that way, if done properly. A good weld should last for the length of the car.
