I think I am going to buy an underdrive pulley shortly. My only concern is about arising problems with the belt tensioner. In several tech articles that I have read in the mags., the stock tensioner craps out and continuously throws the belt after installing the u/d pulley.

Is this something that is commonplace after swapping to the smaller pulley, or is it just coincidence in the articles, or are the people in the articles doing something wrong with the install?

maybe on the older model, but I have a newer ASP SPEC 18.1 r whatever tested one with around 10,000miles no belt issues at all. No issues with it anywhere really. Still looks nice and shiny too.

I've had my pulley on the car for close to 9k miles. No problems until recently: just squeals like a pig with its tail cut off. I think it's the tensioner pulley, but haven't figured it out yet.

At least the new ASP's come machined as in the pictures. I bought an adjustable March idler pulley to replace the stock one. I will let you guy's know how that works after this weekend.

SLP just released an new UDP. Two big improvements over existing models: its all steel (no alum) and it has tall belt retaining ridges that eliminate the need for aftermarket belt tensioners.

Here's the link for the part:
http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...&SHOWEMAIL=Off
Lots of vendors are running sales now on their parts.

It also has integral timing marks, and built-in puller-mounting threads and includes a new balancer bolt.

I'll let you know how the install goes.

If your tensioner throws belts then consider getting the KATECH solid tensioner.. ive never tossed a belt with it

I saw this Pulley as well and wondered what SFI meant.

My car had 15K miles when the pulley went on. Stock tensioner quit. Replaced it with a new stocker ($50). Everything's been fine since.

Yes it is. SFI approval engraved on it and sticker comes w/it. It reflects it conforms w/SFI Spec 18.1. That spec is referenced on the web site noted by absolut speed on the "specifications list" portion.
