Default LS1 best power without tune

Hi,
I live in the UK so it is hard to find someone to map/tune my LS1. The engine was from a 2000 Camaro. I already have Hooker long pipes and a full exhaust without cats.

What can i fit to get the best power for the money without tuning.

I have read that the following give good gains:
- LS6 intake
- big throttle body(and do the TB coolant bypass)

Can i fit all of that without mapping?

Also could i fit Cams? I dont really want to spend the money out on heads. If i can fit cams without mapping what are the best value cams for street use?

Thanks a lot

Luke

Well with long tubes and no cats you need tuning, an ls6 will need tuning because it doesnt have egr and most every cam will need to be tuned also. My recommendation is to get all the parts you want then mail your ecu to Frost, hes a sponser on this site.

You can fit all those mods and a small size cam without tuning but you are leaving a lot off the table. Factory tune is set on the rich side, IIRC when I had mine base tune my tune was 11:1 AFR on WOT.

Where are you in the UK anyway, there are places in and around london area that can tune your LS1. I had mine tuned somewhere in Bedford area and I was disappointed at the results... So I bought a wideband and HPTuners PRO to tune my car.

So could Frost tune my ECU without the car if I gave him a list of the parts installed?

yes absolutely thats what he specializes in although i would keep the stock cam as cams can be a bit tricky to tune for if the car cannot be ran while the computer is being tuned

Hi,
thanks for all the replies. So what are the best cams for the money? Do you need new springs and retainers as well or are the stock ones ok?

Thanks

If you get a 224R cam w/ 112 lsa from texas speed and performance your stock retainers and springs will be fine. Anything bigger you will need to change them. Also I would do a shimmed and ported LS6 oil pump and new timing chain.

yea you can but then again theres no point of getting a lot of mods and intalling them if your not going to squeeze out all the hp that these mods can actually produce..

Ok well thanks for all the great answers. I've seen the typhoon inlet manifolds on eBay. Do they give better gains than the ls6 manifold? Also what size throttle body is best?

you will need new springs for 224r cam. It has .581 lift. You can just get the Comp 918 beehive springs and reuse your retainers and locks. Thats what I did.
