Default CHRS1313 Ram Air Installed

Well I ordered my CHRS1313 Ram Air from another member on here, I installed it over the weekend and all I have to say is damn does it make a difference around 50mph+. The install went pretty straight forward, I had to notch out the metal radiator cross member so the plastic air filter box could be bolted down with the 4 bolts. I will post up more pics later.

Looks pretty nice. I need to get around to buying one of these. Not really sure if I plan on keeping my AC or not though.

Well if you have any doubts about your A/C, just get rid of it. I think if your on a budget build like I am, than it's a good idea to rip it out.

Plan on picking one of these up here soon, but I'm definitely getting the a/c version. No way in hell I'm not gonna have cold air during the summer around here.

I would like to see some actual pictures of the a/c version, both parts and installed. Not sure why it's so elusive.

How much room do you have between the sheet metal and the radiator now.

No room? It's touching in ONE spot. I live in southern Louisiana, stock T-stat, and my car never runs hot.

You guys that are saying that coolant temps are not running hot how are you monitoring your temps? Give me your temp reading with that big ram air in the way.
I have a megamouth in my basement that I installed and took off right away. I didnt like how much space it stole away from the radiator.

Well since my trans decided to get rid of 3rd and 4th gear, I could only "haul ***" around the block up to about 70. So I'm not really sure if it's gonna run hot or what. I shall see someday

I meant as in room to put a trans cooler in between. Not radiator air flow or anything like that.

Wondering that now too. Gotta remember 99-02 had "dummy" temp gauges. They sit at 210* once it's "warmed up" regardless if we're running at 180 or not.

Well to give you a little info...I installed the megamouth with my transcooler on the radiator. It fit fine but I didnt like how much breathing space it took away from the radiator. I didnt even attempt to see what kind of temps I would get...I took the megamouth right off the car and put back my smaller ssra. I have a perfect street/strip car with that setup.

Well even if it was a 98 car I wouldnt trust reading off that. I read mine through a areoforce gauge pluged into the obd port.
IMO I have the perfect setup with the smaller ssra and my transcooler on the radiator. I have my ac deleted so theres no condensor in the way. This way I have the gains of a nice cai kit while still having a wicked efficient cooling system.
Heres some real data for ya...Last week hottest day in ct history 103f. IAT temps 110f off the hot pavement coming through the ssra. I drove the car for about an hour with wot, city, and highway driving. Temps stayed 194f-208f most of the time. It did go up to 212f for a min but only after wot and then it went back down. Trans temp got to 190f but wouldnt go any higher.
More info to take into account... reading trans temp off the obd will read higher than an aftermarket setup. I guessing mine reads 10 degrees higher but not sure.
Another inportant fact...the coolant temps I reported are with the stock T stat. High spd on 208f off 203f, low spd on 202f off 194f.
The temps usualy stay 194f-203f unless we have a wicked hot day like we had.
I didnt want that big megamouth messing up the efficiency of my cooling system so I didnt bother. I feel pretty lucky I have ssra, and trans cooler right in front of the radiator while at the same time having kick *** cooling.

senicalj4579 - I used to run the FTRA and now run the Mega Mouth. Overall I have seen about a 4-5 increase in ECT and none in the trans temp (which I moved to the passenger side inlet under the parking light). I use EFILive to monitor both. I run a 180 F t-stat and my fans are set to come on slightly lower than yours. It's been a really hot Summer for us as well, but the car has not come close to over heating even with a 10% UD pulley. I do run a LT1 radiator, which helps.

Im willing to bet you didnt get very much hotter because of that lt1 radiator.
That 4-5 increase would probably be more for my ls1 rad which I dont really want. But Im curious what the temps would be with the megamouth on.
I may just throw that megamouth back on and go driving around to monitor the temps. Ill report back with data if I decide to do that.

Drkphx...would you happen to know how going from a smaller ssra to the megamouth ssra would effect the way my car runs? I had the car tuned with the smaller ssra on the car. I would think that having a bigger duct would cause the tune to be off.

Another question...do you have any data on how much you gained going from ftra to mm ssra? I wonder what I would really gain ssra to mm ssra.
