For those of you new to German Castrol following along at home, there are many fine lubricants on the market that I'd reach for if GC wasn't available. Red Line, Lucas, Mobil One, Amsoil, Torco, Schaeffer's are all perfectly very good if not great oils. It's just that German Castrol has been proved to be a cut above and if you want a high performance oil, it's not unreasonably more expensive than the other offerings on the market.

I don't include Royal Purple because they've been shown to fludge their test numbers and it's VERY expensive. They seem to do a ton of advertising. A good product will sell itself without the need to over-saturate everybody with advertising. It's probably a decent product but for less money, you can easily have better.

Like I said, I get it at Autozone. If they are running a castrol deal it is $28-$30 for 5 qts and a good filter (usually k&n or mobile 1 filter). So it's no more expensive than any other synthetic.

Geez... $6 a bottle must be nice. We are up to around $12 per litre in the Great White North.

Ever had a conversation with another store patron and sold him on the benefits of GC? I know I have converted a few people. Afterall ,the more it sells the longer it stays on the shelves.

If it's not on sale it is $7.99/qt

The filter the kit comes with is worth $10-12. If you want to use a regular brand filter sometimes they let you trade it out so the end price is even cheaper.

I usually bought GC when Auto Zone or Pep Boys had sales with a "throw away" filter like a Flam or cheap Chumpion. I'd buy the oil and leave the filters behind. I think the sales were for $24.99 for five quarts and the filter. This placed the oil at five bucks each.

I only use Cummins FleetGuard lube filters or in a pinch, a Mobil one or K&N filter.
