Default Opinion: Replace cat or Remove cat?

I have something loose inside my catalytic converter and it sounds like its rolling around and makes my car sound like a POS.. and its like 10k miles old.. without me ******* it..

So my car originally had a ORY, the O2 sensors are at the bottom of my LT's, and I have a safe assumption that my car was tuned to run without my cats.. but the dealer had to install a cat before they could sell it to me.. apparently they either did a shitty job or its just a shitty catalytic converter or both cuz its causing a shitty rattle.. i removed the mid pipe and i tried to shake it out and its just stuck inside of it

Should I just remove the catalytic converter entirely to have a ORY setup
or should i replace the cat with like a highflow or something like that

take a screw driver and hammer to the inside to gut it, wear a mask.

Idk if i wanna gut the cat, prolly be easier to jus weld in a 3 inch pipe inplace of the old cat

i think it would be cheaper and more beneficial for a ory, right?

I had the same problem as you, I was going to just replace the one cat, but figured the other will probably go as well eventually, so I just bought an O/R Y for $250. Got that installed and all is well now. Besides, from what I've seen, there really isn't too much of a difference in cost between buying one catalytic converter and a brand new Y pipe, a catless one that is. If you can deal with the smell and extra noise, it's a great alternative.

thx for the honest reply,
thats what I had figured, I mean.. my cat is literally 10k miles old, and its already deteriorating? .. if anything im prolly a backfire waiting to happen before that lil piece plugs up something. I run around with a open cutout and I don't get stopped by police or anything and the sound is music to my ears tbh

a lil rasp never hurt me at wot with my cutout, but then again it was very minimal cuz of my cat.

I think a ory, electric cutout and my manaflow my be a very decent setup. I'm going to go back and install an electric cutout, new intake (idk which one yet) tb bypass, smooth bellow appearance, plugs, wires, rear ignition cutoff switch (nhra rules), then re dyno-tune my car.. maybe get a slp muffler for weight savings idk about the slp muffler but the others are on my to-do list before I go with a cam setup.. cuz idk what type i want haha

ty for ur input btw

I did the exact same thing. Kept getting a car efficiency code on my trans am. I checked how much 2 new cats were and it was a no brainer. I got Lt's and the texas speed rumbler X exhaust for less than 2 cats were gonna cost me.

I had the passenger side cat go bad last fall. Checked into replacing and found that for less money I could buy a set of BBK headers and a ORY.
I put those in and it sounds great. No rattles and it sounds very nice. Quiet at under normal driving conditions and just a little loud under WOT.
It sounds like you have the cat after the y. If thats it just remove it and weld in straight pipe or a straight through style muffler.

Dude for real, what's up with our catalytic converters?

I mean, everyone I talk to who has an ls1 fbody .. they all go out soon after a new one is placed in

I think our cars were designed for off road mid pipes

unfortunately I feel as if I have to replace the cat..

I'm being pressured by emission regulators.. apparently my city is cracking down on such 'non-moving violations' and 'non-compliant state inspectors'

idk what the consequences are but they making it seem like its a $500 fix and pay ticket or something.. my city has never been this way before, this is becoming more and more complicated

edit: I called 2 muffler shops, and they both told me this so wtf is up with that?

Your better off throwing some high flow cats on there. My friend had the same rattle like you on the passenger side. went to my local muffler shop, installed high flow magnaflow cats on. Boom. done.
