Default vin number on motor?

Can I check where my motor is from by running the vin number on the motor? PO says the motor is out of an 01' vette. Is there any way to verify?

Thanks gentlemen

98.

Motor is very clean, so it appears as if it has been removed (from another car) and cleaned at one point

Awsome mines a 98' aswell and previous owner swapped it for a 99 after blowing the motor, it looked clean too, he gave me paper work but i was always sketched out so i had to find out. Im sure you might have heard of this but it helped me out. Apparently all 98 LS1 motors Had the Ignition coils mounted to the valve covers one at a time upposed to one whole piece. the valve covers look alot differnt from a 99+ LS1 aswell.. I looked at one of my friends camaros which indeed is a 98 and i saw the difference right away. I even googled it for pictures and you can see the difference in both years.. and if yours is from an 01 corvette it shouldnt have the EGR hooked up onto the manifold..

Heres a link for the differences in each year... https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...years-ls1.html

I wasnt able to find it by vin or anything but i hope this stuff helps

looked up the # on the intake manifold, and apparently it's a 97-00 vette intake manifold

Intake doesn't mean much.

Heads are from that year.

Chances are he was being truthful.

what is the casting # on 98 camaro heads? is it not 241?

nevermind found it:

Here is a list of a few casting #'s:

933 97 aluminum perimeter bolt 5.7
806 97-98 aluminum perimeter bolt 5.7
853 99-00 aluminum center bolt 5.7
241 01-03 aluminum center bolt 5.7 (some late MY00 cars got 241 castings)
243 LS6 aluminum center bolt 5.7
862 and 706 99 and up 4.8-5.3 truck heads
873 99-00 LQ4 6.0 iron center bolt heads
317 01 and up LQ4 6.0 aluminum center bolt heads
035 02 and up LQ9 6.0 aluminum center bolt heads
apparently the 241's have been ported
