Default moding valve covers?

anyone mod stock valve covers for shaft mounted rocker clearance? anyone come up with a cheaper way of raising valve covers instead of shelling out the cash for custom covers or spacers?

I've modded 'em. It's pretty easy & is the cheapest way. Used a dremmel.

It's been years. Best thing I can tell you is to put grease or similar on rockers, install covers & carefully rotate engine by hand w/ breaker bar on crank bolt. You may even have to remove material in some areas before being able to check the clearance w/ engine rotation. Remove material where the grease leaves a mark in the cover. Continue until everything is clear. That's really all that I did. Afterward, made sure to clean all aluminum chips/residue out w/ brake fluid & air compressor.

Why use brake fluid to clean the chips, just curious.
