Default SLP Radiator - Any Good?

I'm looking to get a new rad that has better cooling capacity for my 2KTA. I know that Lingenfelter sells a nice unit - but I'm not prepared to spend $800 right now after all the engine mods I just bought

Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the SLP rad? It has a much more attractive price at $270 and is noticeably thicker than the stocker.

I know you usually get what you pay for - but if the SLP rad will make a noticeable difference in my temps - then it's good enough for right now

If anyone has one for sale let me know also...

TIA
-Jay-

I have it coupled with a 160 therm and it works fine. No problems thus far. Just make sure when you install it you sont sway the tb coolant and overfill lines.

I have it, and all it is is a lt1 radiator. Just buy a lt1 radiator and save yourself some money.

Well, if that's true, isn't it wonderful that GM decided to downsize the rad in the LS1 cars

Anybody have a part number for the LT1 rad? I can pick up the SLP version for $267 - can I really get an LT1 version from GM for less than that?

Trust me... my friend bought an lt1, and I bought the slp for 100 more and they are identical. LT1 came with a thicker radiator because it is an iron block. Since we swapped to iron blocks we also swapped to the bigger lt1 radiators, and they work great. He bought his from a local radiator shop not a dealer. I believe it was 175. You just have to put a cap on the heater line on the driver side. Other than that it slides right in with no modifications.

That sounds interesting, I've been thinking of doing something like that myself. Do you know exactly how much effort is required to get to the radiator and get it out?

I had an SLP radiator on my 10-second 434ci Formula. It worked great, the car was overheating mid-summer with the stock one.

I heard the same thing about the LT1 radiators and am looking into this too. What year radiator did he get. I had a 1995 LT1 and it had the low coolant sensor. What about that? Is there any other mods that need to be done to it? will the tranny lines hook right up too?

The SLP radiator has the coolant sensor hole, so you'll need a sensor just to block it off...

Tranny lines hooked up just fine.

It had the driver's side heater line already blocked off.

I checked Advance Auto Parts and they have the same part number on the replacement radiator from 1995 thru 1999...they don't show one for 2000+, but my guess is that it's the same....

Here's a pic with the dimensions.

What do you plug the heater hole with?

I'm also interested in this. I checked rockauto.com a while back and the radiators they show for the lt1 and ls1 are almost exactly the same dimensions, and are single row. So does this mean the stock lt1 and ls1 radiators are the same? Or could the lt1 version have more pipes or whatever so it cools more, even though it's the same size?

I had a v6 radiator, which was a single row. The SLP was much thicker. Didn't check if it was 2 or 3 row though...
