Mine on my car was pretty loud. I gave it to a buddy and it was super quiet. Never figured that one out since the cars were almost identically modded at the time.

The tips used makes alot of difference. I had some 4 inch tips on mine, they looked like cannon barrels and I went to some dual 2.5 or 3 inch tips and it cut the sound in half. A buddy of mine has a 86 camaro with a hooker catback on it with a sbc 350, M6 and his car ran right with my camaro by the way but I had an extra passenger but he hates how his car sounds and you can't even hear it running. He complains all the time as to why that I have the exact same exhaust and mine is twice as loud as his.
I love mine. Very loud with the cut-out open, like you can hear it from very far away kinda loud. Cut-out closed it adds a very sexy tone to the LS1 IMO. Other than Borla/Corsa I wouldn't want anything else.

Not sure if they changed anything or not but I put one on my H/C car back in 02 with mac mid lengths and ORY. I did this to try to quiet down my combo running the LM1. I didnt notice much rasp at all. It did quiet it down some but it was still loud as hell. Gave it a much more "tuned" sound than the open headers sound of the LM1. I still have it on my car and am switching to BBk long tubes. Car wont be done for a couple weeks so unless your still undecided by than, I cant give u any feedback on sound with long tubes.

Sounds great. Not much louder than stock at idle and screams pretty good at full throttle. Just be prepared. There quality hasn't been the greatest as of late. I got mine if February and it came with only on pipe clamp that was too small for any of the pipes and the tail pipes were slightly off. Meaning the bends are off causing the tail pipes to point slightly outward. Not really enough to be noticeable, just noticeable to be. Overall though I am happy with it. Note: My exhaust is still stock except for the catback.
I like mine alot, but the tips had to go. I bought some stainless steel rectangular ones(like the stock 98s came with) from Fast Toys and they got a good low rumble around 55mph. But I also like the way the DMH electric cutout can manipulate the sound from quiet to a disturb the police sound in under 3 seconds.

So the tone would be different without the dual 3" tips I have on mine?? May have to try it out for a day or so...
