Default High IAT's With K&N FIPK

UPDATE! JUST CHECKED THINGS OUT UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND THE IAT SENSOR HANGING NEXT TO THROTTLEBODY! THIS IS PROBABLY WHY MY TEMPS WERE SO HIGH.I'LL REPORT BACK RESULTS AFTER I MOUNT IT BY FILTER

Just purchased an 02SS camaro. It came with a K&N FIPK already installed. My old SS had the airbox cut at the bottom to draw in front of the radiator as well from the hood. This worked really well. Did some datalogging tonight on the highway and noticed IAT's at 133F with outside ambient at 48! Why is this kit so expensive and why doesn't it utilize the ram air hood? Probably gonna go back to a lid setup. Just curious on other opinions on this setup.

Because its carb legal where as a lid is not. It only works well with open hoods like the WS6, Ultra Z, and stock firebird hoods where outside air can enter

Them temps seem quite high, however, as stated above, the fipk is worthless without an open air passage. You will only get hot under hood air. The stock lid may be restrictive, but at least it has the means to be opened up to outside air.

Yes, when car was cold the IAT temp matched outside ambient.I thought that when cruising on highway it would lower back down, but it did not.It went to 139 sitting at a red light.Definitely going back to lid setup!

Just make a hole on the metal underneath the filter for the air to come under the bottom since you don't have a WS6.

Your FIPK needs that L baffle plate that sits on the
radiator, to seal real well to the hood. Like perfectly.
That will keep it from drawing back out of the engine
bay. Then you need to open up outside airflow to the
nose space and seal any other hot air leaks from the
radiator plenum.

On a Camaro the "nostrils" are obstructed by styrofoam
and this can be easily relieved with a steak knife. That
will let the nose space draw a lot easier / cooler.
