Default 2 piece timing covers

Who has used Edelbrock's 2 piece cover? Any bad things about it? Any better priced ones that I'm not aware of?

I wanted to use the Edelbrock 2pc cover but it wasn't compatable with my Mellings oil pump. I could've ground on it some to make it fit but decided to return it instead.

Ours works with aftermarket oil pumps. Like our High Volume pump as well. Made of 6061 Aircraft aluminum. Billet CNC.

Not to over-state the obvious.....but it sure makes cam changes in the car a whole lot easier. No more balancer removal and as in my C5, no more steering rack disassembly.

Have you guys given it a good leak test, as in w/ a little crank case pressure? It's a great concept, but, I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig, if you know what I mean.

Not dedicated to Edelbrock at all, just a decent price on those. More info the better, no matter what brand.

Had to look at our folder on the timing covers. I made these before the LS2s came out. Back in 2004

So i do not think you have to worry about being a guinea pig. I believe almost every LS Engine Dyno Mule has our timing cover on it.

Here is a video of a cam swap showing how easy the cover makes it so much eaiser.
Sorry for the cheesey music

I just bought the Edelbrock 2 piece, looks like a nice product like the QTP unit. I'll let you know how it works out.

I have been using the QTP cover for years with no problems/leaks - I can attest to the hi quality, and the cam swaps are MUCH easier

Well I just did a test fit of my Edelbrock 2 piece timing cover. If you run a double roller timing chain it will rub!!! So I'm going to take some measurements and see if I can machine down the cover to make room for the spacers that move the pump out. I'll take some pictures to show how I did it.
So here are the pictures, from what I did today. I wound up having to take out .135 off of the cover to clear the ARP bolts. Guess, the Edelbrock cover isn't meant to be used with a double roller set up.

Even though you spent the time machining for a double roller you will never be able to swap a cam out. besides the issue of the chain pushing the pump further out, there is no slack with the double row chain to give you enough room to pull the timing gear out.

And if you do actually get it out, good luck getting it back in.

Yes, now that I look at it closer - the dividing lip on the Edelbrock is up higher than the QTP, plus the casting at the lip protrudes more into the cavity than the QTP does... - which would make it harder (if not impossible) to get cam sprocket off with the inflexible double roller

Well, what's done is done and I'd still like to see someone with a double roller do the same with a QTP do a cam change to prove that it could be done.
I'm not baggin on QTP, I'd just like to see if it can be done in case I need to change what I have to theirs.

Its not a cover issue. You just cant pull the chain off the sprocket. There isnt any room. Also why do you need a double roller chain in the first place. No need for it.
We run a single chain on our 8 second camaro
