Default For those that have a Borla with a cutout...

Two questions.
1. Can it be any louder with the cutout open. I mean is it even noticable?

2. Does anyone have any dyno gains from an open cutout that has the borla?

Im asking because I love the sound of this exhaust mine is pretty freakin loud and I also have another LS car with dual 3" cutouts that is not much louder as noted in the sig.

Looking at the pic (from a member here selling one in the classifieds) I dont understand how the cutout can make a difference its on the straight pipe. It appears if you close it it would just choke the exhaust to go just through one side of the muffler. So I am missing something on how a cutout there can benefit at all.

No dyno slips, but it's night and day for loudness. Closed is a little louder than running no muffler on stock manifolds and cats(which is not very loud), open is racecar loud (Lts and no cats on my car).

The muffler is straight through so there is no restriction. When you open the cutout it goes out the passenger tail pipe bypassing the muffler so it becomes louder, there will be no differences on the dyno

Thats my point. I have this system with no cutout.... so it appears its the same as if I didnt use the muffler at all. Would you say without the cutout as in the system I have. Its the EXACT same as just having a Y and two pipes coming out the back.
You could have just pipes done at a muffler shop for like 50 bucks instead of paying a few hundred for the Borla catback or is there something else to it?

You're not going to get a mandrel bent full stainless catback system for $50 from a muffler shop haha. The whole point of the system is to control how loud you want your car, there's nothing magical about it if that's what you're asking.

Any 3" cutout should fit.

I have that set up and did back-to-back dyno runs...i picked up a few rwhp, but more torque with it open compared to closed. the stock borla system comes with plates that you can switch out to change the sound...the e-cutout allows you to change it while driving. DMH makes one for borla (the flanges with holes for the bolts might not fit if you buy a generic 3" cutout).

Thats EXACTLY what I wanted to confirm. That and the coment above about the enterchangeable part that changes the sound got me all straightend out. That big muffler part didnt make sense to me with that straight section.

Meh, my normal QTP fits fine and they make a Borla cutout. I'm pretty sure the normal DMH works too, but if you're buying new go for the Borla one.
