Default brainstorm my new exhaust system with Kooks 1 7/8 headers

Hi guys,

First of all, let me clarify and that I've read sticky and reason I post is because I want to hear firsthand opinion from you guys that have experience with Kooks 1 7/8" headers.

Right now the car has mid length headers - hi flow cats Y pipe and Borla exhaust.

My Kooks headers will be here tomorrow so I want to start brainstorming about how everything's gonna be setup. The car has 243 heads and LQ9 block if that matters, and lowered with eibach pro kit, to be honest I've no idea how much, I've txt the prev owner, hope he'll get back to me.
I'm leaning towards a true duals setup because I've heard they're the best flowing system out there.

Any suggestions/comments/opinions are much appreciated as I'm still in the dark now about how to get this done.

Ray

I would go with Kooks TDs. Theres a few guys running them now so hopefully someone can post about the ground clearance. They will mate up perfect with your headers, its a 3" Stainless steel system with two options for tips and is one of the best if not the best made thats not custom. I will going with it down the road. Check out Marylandspeed, they always have great prices on Kooks.

Thanks, I'll check them out, would you recommend after the axles dumped or before, I want it to be less drone and raspy as possible, because the car is my DD

How much are you looking to spend? I would keep the cats, and have the exhaust run all the way out the back or, as mac62989 suggested, run the kooks dual systems. Cats will keep the rasp down, and having the exhaust exit far from the cabin will keep drone and other nasty noises to a minimum.

Dumps look and sound like crap to me.

I ordered from Maryland speed, they had the best price on Kooks TD's but you have to call them to get it. It hasn't been delivered yet so I can't comment on ground clearance. I did call a local shop for a custom bent setup and they were $500 more than the Kooks system.

Slash cut ends will help if you have drone. Move them out as far as possible. Gives it a better sound too

It is cheaper if you call but it will still be over $1,000. TSP has TDs that dont exit out the rear. There is also the custom route if there is reputable shops in your area that know what their doing.

i google for kooks X pipe and they're more reasonably priced, what's the difference between the TDs and X pipe? i can have an exhaust shop to weld a pipe from the X pipe, go over the axle to the borla exhaust tips right(cut the tips from the muffler)?

i just can't justify spending $1000++ just to get 10rwhp out of TDs over Y pipe or X pipe, or does TDs will net you more than that?

I dont know how much more TDs would get you over a y-pipe and catback. Id imagine it would be more as you get into bigger cubes, Heads, cam, or forced induction. I know the sound cant be beat. Whats your plans for the car?

I feel like an idiot, I didn't notice that the headers that I bought was hookers not kooks..what do you guys think? Keep it or get rid of it and go for kooks?

True that but the TSP duals dump before the axles right? I want them to be over the axles, since I don't think my would like my car being louder than what is is right now

Yea, that's ******* retarded. These guys get carried away with their pricing for some bent stainless. Sure there's some R&D involved, but $1000++ for headers? How many possible ways are there to bend some pipe for long tubes for LS engines? That's just ridiculous. I can't believe people actually pay that much for headers. They shouldn't cost more than $300-400 max.

Maybe I'm just a cheap ***.

I do agree kooks is overpriced but it comes down to materials and labor costs. They use the best materials, more expensive collectors and make them in the US. That's why the price is so high compared to someone like TSP. They also use stainless and are 1 7/8s but since they outsource and use a normal collector our price we pay is lower

You can get Kooks headers for a lot less than $1,000. Maryland speed has them listed on their site for $870 and a simple phone call will get anyone a better price than that. I saved hundreds on my Kooks TD's by calling. Still I agree they are expensive, but I like their products because it's made in the USA and not China like everything else. Plus the fitment is superb.

get your high flow cats welded into your Y pipe for your Long tubes, and mate it up to your borla. You won't be dissapointed.
