Default Hooker LT's and O2 sensors!! THEY DONT FIT!

Got my cam swap done today, and I was just putting the final pieces back together... I think those jackelopes at hooker welded my o2 bungs on the wrong side.. On the drivers side I cant get them on because the heat shield is in the way that covers the fuel lines, so no I'm not gonna move it. On the pass side, it faces outward making it harder to get the line over there without laying it across the header. What gives?

I had to trim the heat shield to get my O2 sensor to fit on the driver's side. I also had to put a **** load of pressure against the header so that it would screw in square and not cross threaded. I had O2 extensions for the passenger side so I actually had some left over. I believe I ran my passenger O2 over the heat shield then I fastened it away from the header.

Why do they do that? On my LT1 they were facing inward and it worked so much better...

Here are a few pics of what my heat shield looked like after a quick hack job.

How big of a problem would it cause to take these sheilds off completely? Anyone removed them? Problems? Would it be too much of a fire hazard?

gotta love some of these fixes these low budget header companies make ie flowtech, pacesetter & jethot...at least pacesetter has attempted to fix some of their issues, lets see if the others follow suit.

I cut my heat sheild with a pair of tin snips. Cut it in a little "flap" so after I screwed the O2 sensor in I could bend it down to where it still sheilds the fuel line. No biggie, took about 2 minutes.

I also prefer headers with the O2 bungs on the inside.

I hardly see Jet Hot's as low budget headers. And as for fitment, mine went in easier than the manifolds come out. The o2 bungs are on the inside, and no problems whatsoever. When was the last time you installed Jet Hot's?

As for hookers, yes the o2 bungs are definitely difficult to access. For my friend's we just put a lot of pressure on the header and bent the heat shield back until we could finally get the o2 sensor screwed in straight. I would not remove that heat shield if I were you.

eh compared to what? Ok I'll say middle budget same quality & similar design as low budget though. They aint up there with Kooks, PPC, QTP, FLP in pricing so thats why i consider them budget...i think in the GPs its like $600 for headers & y er somwhere around there...pacesetter are at like $500 for headers & y so I'd say close enough in pricing.

Didn't have that problem with mine...I guess it differs from car to car...

I had my 02 bung moved on the driver's side. The passenger side header fit just fine. My driver's side header has the 02 sensor on the inside.

I can see what youre saying as far as money goes. I typically put headers into three price/quality categories, but by going by your 2 category system your post makes a little more sense.

As far as fixing things...Jet Hot has nothing to fix from what I can tell. They make the same power as virtually any other header on the same tier and fit better than probably all of them on the same tier.
