From what I've seen on trucks, the induction system is already kinda CAI -
an air box that draws from the right fenderwell. Might want some opening-
up of baffles, but already cold at least.

But I've never looked at a 'hoe, just Silverados of a couple of years &
types.

Have a look at "shade tree" opportunities to improve, before you throw
money at an oily rag and chromed pipe.

I had a K&N CAI on my 01 silverado 5.3L and I loved it! It was the black plastic one (not aluminum) and it fit perfect and came with a shield for the engine bay that replaced where the stock airbox was to keep heat out. I would definitely go with the K&N. I also got one of their filter covers to go over the cone filter because I was constantly going off road and into water and didn't want water in the filter, it worked amazingly and didn't effect the sound or performance. They use those covers on baja/mud trucks to shed water.

Personally, I'd go with an AEM Brute Force. It's a dry flow filter as well, so no oily MAF issues. Ordering one for my friends 2012 Silverado tomorrow, actually.
