Whats the process you go through to port and polish your stock LS1 throttle body, is it worth it?

there are some that say its worth is and there are others that say its not, you most likly wont notice anything and it would be faster to just get one off ebay thats already done.

I've ported a few of these myself. Noticed a difference right away, way better throttle response. I'd say it's worth it and you can do it yourself for free.

Definetly get one off ebay....for 50bucks you get a ported, smoothed, and cleaned up t/b. Way too much work if you dont have the correct tools to do it yourself.

You'd be looking at 8 bucks anyway in sanding rolls by the time you got it done. Plus 6 bucks for a tube of jb weld if you can get it done with one which seemed impossible to me so I gave up on it. And if you don't have a dremel all ready definately get one off ebay. I can tell you this my port jobs weren't in the same ball park as my shaner.

What did you do with the jb weld?

I attempted to fill in the big hole with the 2 ports in it but the JB weld kept running so I just cleaned it out and forgot about it. I forgot what that mod is called.

If you do it right its definitely worth it, but the key word is doing it right. A good P&P TB is usually worth 5-8 HP along with improved throttle response.

5-8? That seems a bit optimistic on a relatively stock engine.

The bump stop alone on a p/p job is worth it.. Allowing the blade to open 100% at wot. Stock it opens only 80% or so. Plus a good port job should make stock 75mm to 78 or 79 mm. For the money it's worth it.

Search port polish throttle body...I found a write up when I did mine that was very helpful. I would say though, I used carbide bits to get most of the material off, and smoothed with sand paper. If you go this route be very careful with those bits as they will EAT through aluminum if you slip or whatnot.
