Default ordering LSX tommorow 78 or 90?

I'll be ordering a lsx intake and i'm still not sure which to get 78 or 90 mm? Next purchase will be Absolute's stage 2 or 2.5 LS6 heads[VERY SOON] along with my 231/237 cam which is already in. Do you think there will be any extra gain with the 90mm or should i save about 600 bucks and go with the 78mm. Thanks Shawn

My LSX developes power above 4k, if that tells you anything. And I believe the 90mm are intended for strokers....383, 427, etc.

Are you happy? Did you go from a ls6 or ls1 intake? I'm going from a ls1 so i hope to gain everywhere. What else is done to your car?

The price difference between the 78mm LSx and the 90mm LSx is less than $100, well worth it, IMO. Get the right intake now, and you can grow into it in the future.

The price is less than $100.00 but then you have to add the $500 extra for the TB. And this is what i'm trying to figure out, will there be any gains with my set up? Thanks

hard to tell really from the few dyno results we have seen. But I would say for a bolt-on car, cam only setup, or a mild H/C setup the 78 mm would work, but for an all out H/C setup (S2 heads with big cam) or more I would go with the 90mm. If I had the funds I would be getting the 90mm one for my car. Of course this is just based on my own opinion Might want to check out some of the post in the dyno forum. I was impressed with one were there was little gain with just swapping intakes, but when some tuning adjustments were done after the new intake was on it picked up, which is what should really count anyways IMO. If I am going to spend that much money on a setup like that I would want to get every bit out of it, so that would include any tuning tweaks needed. Hope this helps. The search option might be helpful to you also.

For stock internals, I think 78 is the way to go to optimize...but if growth is in your future (cube wise) get the 90...my guess is 12 months from now there will be something better than the current 90.

I went from an LS1 to the LSX. I think there is more power there, but I need a tune from RWTD. I was getting KR & had to turn the timing way down & the PE way up. My dyno charts were almost identical up to 4k & then the hp started to climb. It was still going up when the car hit the limiter @ 6k. Before it started to flatten out at 5k. So I would think a 78 will work well for a cammed motor that spins to 7500rpm too.

A 90 is friggin HUGE! I never got a chance to flow meter my 78, but I heard they flow over 1200cfm. That should put a 90 up around 2000cfm. You'd need a LOT of cubes to suck that much air!!!

Going heads/cam I think you should go with the 90. The 78 has not proven to me yet to be worth it over a LS6 intake. Both will yeild gains, but if you want to go the cheaper route, I say skip the 78 and go with an LS6 intake.

Jason, What is done to trevor's car And did you go from a ls1 or ls6 intake. Also have you guys done any back to back testing With a 90 vs 78? Lastly if i do choose a 90 would'nt i have to change everything from my lid to the TB in order to flow correctly?

destroyer, if you get the 90 you will only need some kind of ducting from the MAF to the TB. A 3" to 4" fernco hose seems to do the trick.

personally if you are looking to go with heads in the future I would go with the 90mm and get the 90mm TB. I'm planning on doing that in the future and I don't see that the 78mm is worth buying.

Just ordered a 78mm from trevor @ texas speed and he told me to get the 78 vs the 90 unless i had a set up that needed very high rev's to make power due to less velosity from the 90mm. BTW thanks to trevor for chating with me for over a half hour and ansewering all of my ?'s GREAT service & price's

I hope not!!! I just thought that spending money to redo everything from my lid to a new TB would cost close to a grand and no one can give any solid #'s on a H/C 346 car with a 90 vs 78! Anyway it's gonna be alot better than the old LS1 intake i have. BTW ordering absolute's stage 2 or 2.5 ls6 heads tommorow
