Question Are stage 8 header bolts really needed?

I am going to install some mac's on my 99' ta and wanted to know do I really need to buy some stage 8 header bolts. I read some posts about the header bolt breaking off. Also, what should I do if this were to happen.
Thanks,
Matt

No, you don't need the Stage 8's. A lot of people re-use their stock bolts, which is what I did. I haven't heard much about them breaking off. What I have heard about though is the Hooker bolts breaking off, and the bolts holding the stock cats to the manifolds (they are TIGHT).

Another thing that is way too common is people crossthreading header bolts. To avoid this, use antiseize on the bolts and a buddy to hold the header up while you thread in the bolts BY HAND as far as you can go. Try to get at least five turns on it to be absolutely sure it is going in straight.

Antiseze is key and start all the bolts before tighting them up.

Wouldn't hurt. Better than a broken header bolt next time you take it apart. The firist time i took my motor out the trans guide pins were seized to the motor what a PITA.Thats when i became a true beliver in the ****. Not to mention when i took my headers off the first time i thought i was going to break off a couple header bolts. Now my stuff comes apart like butter.

They are not necessary, but for $29.99 from Speed Inc., I figured it was good insurance.

Without the locking parts you might as well use regular stock bolts because they will function like stock without those clips. The anti-sieze will help the bolts start into the threads easier, but they will help a lot more when removing them.
