Default How much gain from ls6 intake on cam only trans am?

I have a cam only m6 trans am. It has bolt ons, g5x3 cam, stock heads and made 390rwhp, with the stock ls1 intake. How much power Can I gain from adding an ls6 intake on this cam only car.

Probably anywhere from 10-30rwhp with gains all across the board.

I'm actually hoping to break 430rwhp. Anyone think it's possible for me to meet that goal with stock heads? Not saying with only the ls6 intake. I mean with other bolt ons.

Probably not unless they have 243 or 799 stamped on them.

If ppl pick up 15hp on a stock motor I wana say you will pick up at least 20.

430 is more like a H/C/I set up

To acheive your 430 goal you might have to delete your ac, best free flowing exhaust if not already, asp or powerbond udp, lightweight flywheel and clutch, goal would be easier with a ported fast..... Ported throttle body if ls6 intake, big maf, good bellows, ftp 98 lid, lightweight wheel and tire combo for dyno, kind of a high goal on stock heads.

I realize that I have a high goal. But I already made 390rwhp, with stock heads, stock ls1 intake, and stock ls1 throttle body.

Current mods are lg motorsports g5x3 cam, kooks 1 3/4 longtubes, kooks ORY, magnaflow catback, cutout, slp lip, slp maf, ls7 clutch & flywheel. It is on 18x11 ccw classics.

I do not want to delete a/c, power steering, abs. Nothing. This is a daily driver.

With an intake manifold (not necessarily ls6), throttle body, under drive pulley, does anyone think my goal is possible?

Grab up a ls6 intake and get your stock tb ported. With a asp udp (lighter weight than the powerbond) probably go ahead and upgrade to a larger injector for might be getting close to maxing out the stock 26'ers. 110 vp fuel haha.

This guy got to the 430 mark cam only good example though.

At best you might see a 20hp gain with a ported TB and an LS6 manifold. That nets you 410whp. Your exhaust sucks, you should have 1 7/8" primary headers and a better flowing Y, your flywheel I am assuming is an LS2, those are stupid heavy and rob hp, there is tons of stuff. Regardless, hitting 430whp means nothing. You could switch dynos and make 430whp on a different one.

One thing you should keep in mind is the fact that torque wins races. All these other mods are relatively meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Heads>everything else.

I just dont see 40 over an LS1 manifold, if you were adding a FAST you would get there. The problem is that that cam shines in tot top end, the LS6 intake does not

To be honest with you, I'd say that you were on a very "Happy" dyno when you got your 390 with what you have done to it now.

If all your after is a dyno sheet, take the heavy *** wheels off.

That being said, as stated above, you will see gains across the board, up to about 5800...after that it will nose dive. You need an intake that can breathe where your cam breathes. An ls6 intake on a car with any cam that peaks above 6k is a restriction.

My opinion...go straight to the fast.

Switching to the ls6, You will probably see about 20 or so down low and mid, but max power will probably only increase by 15 or less.

Ls6 is a good upgrade,i dont think you should go right for the fast but at the same time max effort cams require max effort parts

I would go with a Fast Intake, Under Drive Pulley and a SD Tune if budget allows. I think you will hit your goal with that.

Otherwise an LS6 and an Under Drive Pulley, but I think it will be shy of your goal.

I have seen a G5X2 on an 02 block w/241 heads, LS6 Intake, SLP Lid, SLP headers and Y-pipe make 420rwhp. So your goal should be possible.

Probably make around 405-410. LS6 and ported throttle body will be worth what you spend on it. Doubt you'd see 430whp. And to the reply about your exhaust being restrictive, no it's not... at all.

do ls6 intake if your getting a good deal on it.then do more head work, port polish, upgrade lifters, springs etc.Every lil thing will help add more power and keep it stable uptop. The a retune, switch those heavy rims off for the dyno and you should be around 430rwhp if thats your goal.its not going to be cheap getting those number with the stock heads but it can be done if built right.

Or..jus add spray
