Default Slp lid install questions

I just got an slp lid. Going to be my cars very first mod. On ls1howto.com it talks about removing and replacing the MAF. Is this required?

You pull it off the intake yes. It comes off with the stock airbox and then you have have to force in into the neck of the SLP lid. It helps if you warm up the plastic on the lid first sometimes.

I'd take a dremel to the lip of the maf or buy a coupler instead of forcing it in the lid. It is a pain in the *** to get back out if you ever need to.

You'll definitely want to heat up the neck of the lid to install the factory mafs into the slp lid (hot, not mildly warm). A hair dryer will work get it hot but it'll take a little longer then using a heat gun, and someone to keep the heat on neck while you persuade the mafs into the lid will make install go quicker.

Just installed it now. It was way simpler than the write ups make it sound. The MAF wasn't that difficult to squeeze in either. Not super noticable gain but I can feel it pull just a tad quicker when I step on it.

I was thinking about that. If I do that can I still put in a ram air system (fast toys, slp, ect) to gain even more power or is the free mod the same thing?

You pretty much have to do the free ram air mod for the ram air scoops (SSRA, Chris1313, FTRA, etc) to work during their installs anyway, no harm in doing it early.

Oh alright sweet. Didn't know that. I'll probably do that tomorrow. Thanks.
