Default MACs Questions

I think I am actually (finally) putting headers on the car. I can't afford to pay someone to do it, I need the $ for a tune (shops in s. florida want atleast 500 from where Ive looked so far). I currently have borla with the mufflex kit inplace of the cats, and I DO NOT like the sound. It sounded much better with the cats.

I need to decide on MACs or a set of LTs. My car is lowered and I am doing the install myself so I am leaning towards the MACs. I listened to the sound clips on the ls1sounds.com site and the clip for MACs sounded like ****.

Whats everyones experiences with MACs? Noticeable gains? Whats the sound like with cats? Fitment? Thanks. Sound clips would be appreciated.

I just bought a pair of macs. If you want to not scrape, go with macs. They dont give up that much low end, and are equal top end. If your not doing a huge motor, with heads n cam n stuff like that, run the macs. They are respectable. The guy i bought my macs off of was running a supercharger with over 500 rwhp through macs. They are good, they dont scrape, and you cna do a collector mod to make them flow realllly well. Macs you can find used for under 300 for the headers and the Y. Thats my take.

Thanks. I heard something about the ball flange with the MAC setup sucks. I have a T1 cam I will eventually be putting on the car. How would that work with the MACs?

It's not that it sucks, but it has some restriction to it. So modders as we all are, we try to make them better and we end up changing the collector for that little extra flow. At best 5 rwhp but usually in 2-3 range.

2-5 after the merge mod right? Not for headers as a whole.

Yes for the merge mod. If it was 2-5 rwhp for the headers I think a lot less people would do them

How do MACs sound with their ORY????

Rushman, I see you are in F-stock? Any reason you don't go all out and jump into ESP? I am in ESP in the central florida region and that competition is a lot of fun. I also love the way my car drives with the current setup.

I need to get off the KDWS and get some 555RII's so I can consistently whoop everyone.....

MAC's are good, but I'd go with LT's. The difference in the install isn't much. Get the right set and you won't scrape. I don't know which brand has the best ground clearence, definitly not the SLP ones.

I am liking what I hear. After thinking about it some more, the extra cash I would spend on LT isn't worth if. If I were to get them I would go all out and get Kooks. I will be happy with MACs now, take the extra $ and get it tuned right away. Thanks for the info.

I went from 105 to 111 mph with a converter and MACs. Dyno pre converter I gained 50rwhp with MACs, lid and filter in some spots. 41 rwhp peak. (280rwhp to 321rwhp at peak in a 99 Z28 auto)
