There is no EGR system on a 01. 2000 is the last year they were used.

Thats what I was told a long time ago but I just googled it and it says there is a EGR on the back of the intake up under the cowl panel. it was to hot today to feel so in the morning I will see if I feel it I got pics printed out of what it looks like. But I have always read and been told 01-02 didnt have an EGR but the code I am getting is an EGR code.

There is an AIR system diverter valve behind the intake on 00-02s. There is no EGR.

There are many parts to the AIR system. You can't assume the problem is the diverter valve. What is the code number. The check valves above the exhaust manifolds are more prone to failure than the diverter valve. Could be the AIR pump itself or something as simple as a fuse.

it does the same thing, it recirculates less than 10% of the incoming air into the cylinder heads, diluting the air-fuel mixture with this already-burned gas and it brings the combustion temps down about 300 degrees because there is very little 02 left in the exhaust to support combustion. the pump just does it solely without the use of a valve and sending it right into the intake manifold, just pushes it into the lid EGR=exhaust gas recirculation same thing as your air system

wow...no. absoutely not.

2 different systems performing 2 different functions.

EGR puts exhaust gas back into the intake tract bringing combustion temps down to lower NOx gases.

AIR puts fresh air directly into the exhaust stream, bringing the cats up to light off temp sooner on cold starts to lower cold start emissions.

The EGR operates under part throttle conditions usually at cruising speeds.

The AIR system operates on cold starts, usually for about 30 seconds to a few minutes, depending on engine temps.

All the AIR system does is get the cats up to temp quicker. Once they reach the right temp, it shuts off and becomes dead weight.

It injects air into the exhaust stream, and thats all. Its a very common mod to just delete it all, and have the codes deleted.

The only time you will hear the air pump is when you first turn on the car, like others have stated. No EGR in 01-02 on LS6 intakes. Post up the code as others have stated.
