Intake Question
Is this really worth the cost???
Is the LS6 intake worth putting on my 1999 SS, or should I save some money and just do the EGR/AIR delete and plug it up??
Will the LS6 give me more HP than just plugging up my stock Intake?

Yeah, I just bought some Hooker Long tubes, So I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the intake.
Will I need to buy new fuel rails and injectors or anything else for the swap? or will all my current stuff bolt right up to it ?

Most people see about a 10-15 hp increase with an ls6 intake over the stock ls1, it's mostly up to you. If you want to spend the money you can normally pick one up from the classifieds sections for anywhere of 300-400 depending on what people have to offer. Others would wait it out and save up more money then buy a FAST intake. Deleting the EGR and AIR and capping off the intake will not have the same results as an ls6 intake would.

Look up ls6 intake swap on the forums, there's plenty of write ups as well as a couple of videos on YouTube that I've seen. Most everything will bolt right back up if I'm correct except for the coolant crossover line. You will either have to get an ls6 coolant crossover or will have to grind down the fins on the underside of the intake to fit the ls1 line underneath

Be sure that if you are buying the intake that you can tell 100% it is an ls6 intake and not a corvette ls1 which didn't come with the EGR port. The ls6 intake will have a smooth bottom where as an ls1 will have a waved like bottom.

yeah I have done my research on them, so I know about the bottom being flat. what kind of HP difference will a throttle body add to my setup? should I just port the one that's on my car?
If I get the LS6 intake, any suggestions as far as a throttle body? Keep in mind, I'm a broke college student so price is a big thing for me...
If I install my hooker long tubes I just bought, then add a ls6 intake and a throttle body, what do you think that will do for my 1/8 mile times?
My current times without all that is a best of 8.8 @ 84(untuned and no traction at all)
my mods so far are these :
373's , moser rear axels, lower control arms, LCA relo. brackets(not installed yet) bilsteins in the rear(also not installed yet), lid, short shifter, corsa cat-back.

Port the stock tb. Adding a larger tb will only help you if your setup is already choked by the smaller tb. Idealy, you want to run the smallest tb you can without choking your engine to avoid tuning issues.
By no means will a larger tb hurt you at all (except in tuning possibly) But will gain you nothing if your engine doesn't need it.

I found that JEGS has the cheapest LS6 intake if you want to buy it NEW ~$430
Used is always an option and can be found here on the classifieds. Be sure to get plenty of pictures of the condition before buying.
I also found that grinding down the fins on the bottom of the intake is the easiest and cheapest way to do the swap. Swapping to LS6 coolant lines cuts off "steam" or coolant lines (whichever you want to call it) from the rear of the engine. Seems to me that leaving GM's years of engineering alone and simply grinding the the fins from the bottom of the intake is the safest route. LS6 coolant crossover line is ~$50. IMO it is better to leave the LS1 lines as GM intended them to be and just grind to fit. Search write ups on the grinding.
Also, doing my LS6 intake swap I used "ls1howto.com"s write-up and everything went smoothly.
Swapping to an LS6 intake will actually require you to delete the EGR (every LS6 intake I have seen does NOT have EGR provisions), I am not sure about the AIR though. You should just go ahead and get rid of the EGR anyways, its unless you have emissions testing, then leave it and figure something out with the LS6 intake, I am sure the EGR can be put on the LS6.
I will put a link to the intake swap "how-to" that I used. Note that if you intend to grind the fins on the bottom of the intake (I suggest) you will not need the plugs and crossover pipe that the write up says is required.
Take some asprin before the swap, your back will be killing you when you are done leaning over for a couple of hours.
Good Luck!

Yeah I'm throwing on some headers also so I intend on doing the EGR delete regardless, As far as emissions lol I don't care much about that for 2 reasons, #1) we don't have testing here and #2) Even if we had emission checking here all you have to do is supply 3 receipts of you buying things in an attempt to make it pass, if you do that they will wave the issue.

If you're going to spend 350-400.00 I'd go for the BBk intake. It is a little bit better on power. Even if you found an LS6 for 325.00, add shipping and you're back around 350.00 The weight and heat soak thing is nothing but internet...........

+1 on not listening to 2nd gen.
Hands down LS6 over the BBK. I am sure everyone on this forum will tell you the same thing about LS intakes. LS1 to LS6 give you better top end, depending on mods you can pick up anywhere from 10hp to 30hp, again, depending on mods.
Basically, either save up $$$$ and buy the expensive F.A.S.T, and you'll have the best there is. Or you can buy the LS6 for a third the price and still have a fine intake that'll do you just fine.
