Can someone help me with where you are finding your motors? I found one from LKQ in Savannah, GA for $850. It is an L59 with 146k miles. Seems kinda high for this. I have heard of others in the past finding 5.3L motors cheaper.
Is this good? Where are they cheaper? Thanks a lot

This is just me. Other people will probably disagree. You can buy a refurb'd LS1 for around 3000 bucks. I'd be a little bit skeptical as to why someone is selling their old engine. Was the engine treated well? Were fluids changed regularly? How hard did they beat on the engine? How many miles did it have on it?
With a refurbished engine you should be guaranteed around 100,000 miles of life. It will require a break-in period (regular driving, don't go on vacation type thing). Break-in period typically runs for 500 miles. After the 500 miles you should change your oil. After this you can resume with typical oil changes of 3000 miles or so depending on the oil that you buy. Also due to rings breaking-in, you should check your oil every time at the gas station for the first 3000 miles to make sure you're not leaking excessive amounts of oil. Just a safety precaution.
Good luck.

Looks like you're in Illinois, LKQ is a good place to search, and I would think you could find one closer that GA. 6.0's will run you more, in my area there is a 6.0 for $1500 unknown miles; but there are 2 5.3's for $550, which seems reasonable.

There is an LKQ on North Ave in Chicago at about Kostner. Not the greatest neighborhood but not the worst. Try picknpull also, there is one in summit and one in Wadsworth
