Default Best flowing air filter?

I have had K&n filter on my car for a while now. A lot of people say they are junk, soo I was just wondering what is the best flowing filter out there? Has there ever been any tests done to prove it?

I run the K&N with SSRA. gained .17 at the track with filter change alone.

I would just stick with a paper air filter. Change it every 2 oil changes and you'll be fine. You end up with oil on you maf sensor with them and honestly I don't think they filter as well. I could honestly tell a difference in the color of my oil when running a paper vs K and N. My oil would stay nice and clear throughout a oil change with a k and n it would start looking dark within a few hundred miles. And you gained almost 2 tenths from just an air filter?

I paid $7X.XX for my K&N filter. Took it out about a week later and sold it. Waste of money on these cars

K&N here. I have no complaints. I also don't oil the **** out of it either. Just enough to turn pink. That's it.

Had a Holley Powershot filter in my car but forgot to clean it when I did H/C/I. So I just bought a Wix paper filter, did back to back dyno runs with filter then no filter, 8hp difference. So probably going to recoil the Powershot and put it back in.

AC Delco. Car only gained 2 rwhp with K&N on dyno but it allows more dust/dirt in the motor.

Lol that is true... I think I might give Holley power shot a try. I've had my k and n for a while now. All the washing and re-oiling must have an effect on performance and filtering capabilities.

Just dont oil the crap out of it! And yes almost .2ths. A guaze filter vs. a paper filter...no comparison in my book. A paper filter is like breathing through a straw. Very constrictive IMO.

I have read numerous posts about K&N filters and those that say they are junk.
The K&N works on the same principal as the oiled foam filters whereby the filter only works efficiently when oiled correctly.

The oil in these types of filters is designed to attract and suspend the dust particles on the oil and not the filter material and the more dust suspended on the oil the better the filtration.

These types of filters have been used in offroad racing and dirt bikes for years and are superior to paper filters for both flow and filtration.

I have an offroad race truck with a magnacharged LS1 and a K&N cone type filter, a while ago I was at a race event where about 100 vehicle used a dirt access road daily for seven days 2-3 times a day in convoy fashion.

As you could imagine these vehicles destroyed these roads to the point where many vehicles could not use the roads because the bull dust (powder fine dust) was up to 3' deep in places. Vision whilst in convoy was about 1' in front of the vehicle and the windscreen wipers had to be used to clear the dust from the windscreen.

Any way after a week of this I checked my intake hoses and throttle body and it was completely clear of dust whilst others were wondering why their paper filters had let dust enter their engines.

Cheers

I tested several, including stock OE and the Blackwing
OE, back when I first got the car. The best I found was
the Blackwing, followed by Purolator. So I've stuck with
Purolator.

A filter is only going to flow so much. I have a K&N and its OK being washable but you have to be careful not to over oil, due to the MAF. I wouldn't really worry about it paper ALL the WAY.

U MIGHT GAIN 1 HP with a great expensive filter. Not worth worrying about in my opinion.

I have two spectre cone filters on my c5 intake and had no issues with them and making good power with them. I know they're cheap but cant beat em for the money.

I bought the Volant for the look, but with the dual round filters it has a huge surface area. Not sure and don't care about any gains, just liked the look. I kept my SLP lid and K&N filter in case my mood changes
