Car overheating need help!!!
Car overheating need help!!! alright so here's the just of it, I have a 99 Z28 with a STS kit and the supporting mods.
I replaced the radiator since it had a crack with a LT1 radiator and that didn't fix it. So i replaced the water pump with a LS2 water pump and a new thermostat and that still didn't fix it. it will idle for about 10 minutes and the needle will bury itself in the red.
need thoughts and opinions. all fluid is fresh, oil is fresh, every hose is tight and clamped in the corresponding outlets and i capped off the extra spout on the LT1 radiator

How hot is the water coming out of the block going into the radiator? is the hose firm soft cold or hot as a canon? SOUNDS like you have air in the system and not water. or thermostat is in backwards? Try running it with no thermostat and all the caps off the cooling system see if it will take more water after you start it? You are sure you don't have a rag in anything that got left in while you were swapping stuff? I am sure you have gone through most of all of this stuff already not trying to insult you but all stuff i have seen happen?
Was going to say if the fans are kicking in after a few mins then it definitely sounds like there could very well be air trapped in the block causing it to overheat that quickly then. Was the cooling system drained after the radiator was replaced, and if so do you remember how much you put back into it?
Another thing you can try is removing the thermostat and see if that helps. I've seen brand new units stick and not open, as well as failures where the t-stat sticks wide open as well.
Another question, the ls2 water pump, does the impeller shaft have ccw vanes or clockwise? Possibility that the coolant flow is reversed?

Well when I'm running it I hear sounds of the the pump sucking fluid through but like so much at a time and not a constant flow but the top hose on the drivers side is pretty warm. As far as knowing any mechanical Would on the LS2 pump i hoy no cliente

just went through with this in a 5.3 equipped Envoy, replaced the radiator and thermostat refilled and it overheated... waited till it cooled down somewhat and opened up the radiator cap ran it at idle with the heater on and burbed all the air out of it. Before upper hose was hot and lower was cold and heater blew cold, burped and refilled and it worked great.
if you replaced the pump and radiator im willing to bet you just have a cavitated pump with a big old air pocket. take the top radiator hose off that goes into the pump/block. Pour coolant in there until it is full and then reconnect to the radiator. Make sure your tanks are topped off then start it up......
No head gaskets are fine, no signs of then being blown no smoke coming from anywhere, I going to drain it out and on of my buddies suggested water wetter I believe so ill see if that helps
