Angry SLP LT's Horror Story...manhole cover !

Someone want to help me out here? I have pics and a short video clip of why NOT to buy SLP Long Tubes! I just dont know how to list pics...If someone wants to list them for me I will gladly email them to you and you can list them under this thread...Then I will explain what happened...I think this will put somewhat of an end to the debate about "which headers to get" and why to AVOID SLP LONGTUBES!!!

Just go to Advanced and click on the little yellow icon that says insert image. If you cant figure it out then send them to sgingell@unboundinternet.com and I'll post them. I want to see what you did man, I have a friend that put on SLP's even after I warned him NOT TO. Just want to show him before it happenes to his ride.

Thanks.

I got SLP LT's. Love the fit, happy with my numbers. Im fact I've had 'em for 2+ years, and they still look great. They are difficult to install, but not impossible

the ground clearance on those things sucks. i had them for 2 years and royally banged them up even with stock springs and stock 16" rims.

I've never understood why anyone would go with SLPs, they hang so low it's silly.

to post pictures you have on your computer, you just have to click the Manage Attachments button, browse to find their location on your computer and as long as they arent any bigger than 100kb i believe they will work, and then click upload. I'm online right now, if you want to send the pictures to me at LS1Cain@houston.rr.com i can edit the image size if need be and post them

Man, it's hard to tell what's going on in that pic. Is the header bent up in the wrong direction? OUCH.

ok the pics worked, (first time for everything you know) The 0076 pic is the manhole cover I hit in Minneapolis which SHOULD have had cones around it, the city is puting in a rail system (which is visible in the 0076 pic in the background) and re-paving some of the city streets that intersect with it...however the rail system is put into concrete so the track are typically higher than normal (just as if you pass over any other rail system) and what happened was I went over the tracks and on the other side, which wasn't up to grade on pavement, the car came down and the front suspension compressed as well, just at the same time I was going over the manhole cover and "wham" thats it for the longtubes, check out pic 0068 and you will see what the passengers side looks like after you hit a manhole cover!!! surprisingly enough, it didn't **** anything else up on the car, which after the impact, I am completely amazed...

well after reading your story, it sounds like you can't just put a bunch of blame on SLP. Is your car lowered? Did you mess anything else up? Scrape the front nose a little?

the moral of the story is, the SLP longtubes hang way too low! any other header would have probably survived this, anyone who knows how SLP LT's are designed will know what it used to look like on the passenger side before the impact. (also note the driver side header which doesnt hang as low but still took an impact from a piece of buckled pavement... sometimes in spring in Minnesota, when the ground thaws, it makes the roads "heave up" in certain areas which you can't see until it's too late)

Pretty much any of the major people.
I know TEA sells them.....but I know others do too. They are the best, so everyone has them. Choose your loyalty place(which obviously isn't SLP anymore!)
