Run around on the street for 2 hours straight with open headers and see how you and the local police feel about it.

my roommate has a LM1 on a cammed/header car and it is in no way shape or form as loud as open headers

my car has dual cutouts a foot behind the headers and even with both of those open it still is not as loud as open headers

like I said...drive with open headers for about 5 minutes and you will understand, I do not have the knowledge of physics to be able to explain it, but that's how it is...the pipe and expansion chambers of a LM1 or Borla definitely alter the sound compared to straight pipe, much less compared to open headers

Judging by the sheer fact this thread exists I can only assume you've never even heard an open header car. Not manifolds...headers, because there is a huge difference there too.

But judging by the way you attempt to write sentences I can determine it won't do any good to try to alter your opinion. So have fun with it.

OP, i'm sorry but thunderstruck507 is very much right here I have long tubes, ORY, SLP LM1, and while it's very loud and raspy it's simply not the same as open headers. I can tell you from personal experience as well

+1. I have the same setup as above and it's QUIET compared to when I tested it with open headers.

Open headers is annoying as heck! Makes me feel like im in one of those old big block carburated trucks that make more noise than what they run

I don't know why any of us are trying to convince the op about the loudness of open headers...I'm sorry but sometimes some people would argue that the sky isn't blue. Good luck op

I just ran my open header car to the exhaust shop and had my ypipe fitted for my borla and left with a 20 time quieter vehicle and it didnt have a single plate in the back at the time. Now I have the dmh borla cutout installed on it and love having the option of how loud or quiet I want it to be. Open headers is ridiculous.............

I drove my SS to the exhaust shop open header. God damn that was annoying. Everything's vibrating stupid loud. Cop bait etc. Just putting on the Y pipe calmed it down.

Exhaust noise is lessened when it bounces off of "cooler" pipe. The longer the exhaust system, the quieter it will be. Mufflers are simply baffles for the exhaust to bounce off of to quiet it. Common sense really.
