Default Intake Manifold Choice LS6/FAST

I'm thinking about installing an LS6 intake on my 2000 SS. The car is stock except for headers and loudmouth exhaust. Future plans for a 450+ HP build. Will the LS6 Intake work for this build or should I spend the extra cash now and get a FAST intake? Thanks for any advice.

If you're going to get a H/C setup, you will want the FAST. You can expect a 20hp increase with the FAST over the LS6 on heads and cammed cars.

For your expectations, you would def need a FAST.

My fast 92 tb and intake perform great. If keeping the car for a awhile its worth it.

I plan to do a FAST on mine before going head/cam. If you're absolutely positive you'll be doing a 450+ hp build then I would do the FAST now so you don't have to worry about it later. I plan to do all of my bolt-ons right that way when I go head/cam I won't have to worry about leaving any power on the table. If you can afford to get it ported, do that as well.

Tunes are expensive. I would keep the LS6 and do all the bolt-ons at the same time.

There are other intakes out there beside the FAST intakes. I've been seeing a lot of great numbers and ET's with the Super Victor w/ 4150 TB. If you go that route, you'll want to make sure you have a cam suited to that particular intake.

That is true about the Super Victor JR and 4150 TB. I have always liked that set up. The only problem with that is you have to cut on the cowl of your car to get clearance for it to fit. Plus you will need an after market hood too. If you do not want to cut on your car you can get to the 450 HP number the OP seeks. I made 452/418 on a heads/cam bolt ons car with an LS6 intake. The FAST will get you there too. It just depends on if you want to spend the extra money for the FAST intake and bigger TB.

It's not a power lever, so much as a rpm level. The ls6 loses steam around 6k. So if you have a heads/cam package that is done by 6000 or so, the ls6 would work fine. Even if it theoretically made 600 horse.

Now if you have a heads/cam package that doesn't quit until 6800 or so, you will need the fast, even if it only makes a theoretical 300 horses.

Actually all LS6/FAST design intakes start to run out of breath around 6300-6400 RPMs. That design is a compromise design. Individual runners with individual TB's or a Super Victor JR design with a 4 barrel TB will breath far better up on the top end. But if the OP is looking to make 450 HP it can be done without the added expense of the FAST intake and a aftermarket TB. You can get to 450 HP but that is about all there is using a LS6 intake.

This would depend on application. I'm not spinning my setup past the stock set rev limiter, so there's no way I would see close to 20hp by swapping intakes.

OP- look at your realistic future goals and decide from there. Unless you're doing a max effort set up, the ls6 may be suitable, plus you could use the spare change for other supporting mods. My set up was more for a nice street car that I could take to the track every once in a while. I didn't want to sacrifice reliability by spinning the motor 6800+ rpm's, but I wanted decent power at the same time. Very happy with the balance in my set up.

This is what I'm after. From what I've been reading the LS6 would support 450 HP with heads and cam build. That's what I was really asking about. Did I need to spend the extra money on the intake. I'm looking to build a bad street car not necessarily a race car. Thanks for the input.

Will the LS6 "support" 450? Sure it will.

Bolt on a FAST though watch your kPa at the MAP return to 100 at WOT, and gain an extra 20hp on the top end. So while you "made" 450 with an LS6, all you've done is choked your setup to making 450... All the while you probably had a 465/470 build.

Nobody said that the LS6 intake is superior to the FAST intake. It is obvious that the opposite is true. The OP had a target of 450 HP and wanted to know if he could get there with an LS6 intake. The answer is YES. The 20+ HP that you can gain by using the FAST intake is a given. The only problem with that 20+ HP is that it comes at such a high price. You have the cost of the intake, throttle body, and porting of the FAST intake. Plus most people use after market fuel rails and plumbing that add to the cost. Do the math and see how much each one of those horses of that 20+ HP cost. I know because I've been there done that (452/418) using a LS6 intake. My car has not gone down the strip in years. I did not build it for that purpose. It is just a nice street hot rod with enough power to make me happy and great drivability. It fits my needs and does what I wanted it to do. I had a plan with a goal and chose my build parts accordingly. This sounds to me that is what the OP is looking for with his car. Good luck with your build OP! Nuff said...

I'm not cutting my cowl, running a ridiculously restrictive elbow, or running a huge mullet hood, so FAST for me. OP, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
