Default Starter wont engage, ran after bumpstart.

2000 Z-28 M-6 tranny. Drove almost home last night and after stopping at a fast food place turned key on, all lights come on, security light came on for a couple seconds then went away, no start. Thankfully I got it facing downhill and bumpstarted and it ran normally the last mile home. This morning I put the charger on but the battery only took a couple min to fully charge, still no start. Read up on the VATS but my security light doesn't blink or stay on, plus the VATS shuts off the fuel pump, correct?

I don't have anybody to turn key or hold clutch in, suppose I can cut a 2x4 for the clutch tho, brace it against the seat.

Had a alternator/starter guy look it over. When he first put 12v to the solenoid it didn't engage. Then he powered the starter and it did fine, from then on the solenoid worked fine also. I had him pull the back of the starter and check the brushes and starter plate, all good. I had him put on a new solenoid and I just installed it, nothin. Turn the key and no sounds just like before.

Is there a fuse or relay somewhere?

Let me amend that. No starter sounds. I can hear the fuel pump operating.

The 70 Blazer went **** up Wed so I'm driving the 2000 S-10 with the cracked block that the mice have been pooping in for a couple years. Got pulled over today because of the expired tags, cop must have felt sorry for me cause he let drive off.

So

Anybody have an idea?

Tonight the S-10 firewood truck with the cracked block and the two year expired tags died before it got me home.

Three vehicles down in two weeks. In winter, btw neither truck had a working heater....

I'll pull the starter again tomorrow and hopefully get a neighbor to turn the key while I watch the voltmeter on Christmas Eve.

I'm all out of vehicles now. I live way out in the country. Without a single running one I'm way screwed.

A little help...

F ing $5 relay. Luckily the one out of the same year S-10 worked. Swapped it in and it fired right up.

Got the Blazer running too for a backup.
