How do I quiet down my Borla?

How do I quiet down my Borla? The 2000 SS we just picked up has a Borla adjustable catback on it that is way too loud for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound, but haven't had a ticket in over 10 years and would like to keep it that way. Couple the loud exhaust with the dark window tint and I'm just begging for one.
The system came with 5 plates and I've been told it's not going to make much difference which one is in there. I think maybe the quietest one still lets some exhaust bypass but not sure.
Anybody got an answer for me?
1 thing I have considered is trading someone for a much quieter catback. To be honest, I've wondered how much a stock muffler setup would cost me in power. That would be quite 'sleeper-ish'.

I have the adjustable borla, long tubes, no cats, ory and a huge cam. Mine is certainly not too loud with a plate in it. I have run it with out a plate and it is loud but tolerable. I wanted to be able to open and close it from the drivers seat so I installed an electric cutout where the plates go. Love it - it's not too loud wide open but it's throaty and quiet when I close it.
I agree with high_impact and I have the same setup. With the full blocked plate, or the cutout full closed, all goes thru the muffler and it's not very loud to me. Even full open is not very loud to me... I wish it was a tad louder actually.

I have longtubes, ORY with the Borla catback and its very quiet with the block off plate installed. Its actually quieter than manifolds, cats, and custom dynomouth.
Make sure you have that blockoff plate installed before switching out that exhaust.
