Exclamation Fast 102 defect cause an issue?

Have you guys ever seen a defect on the Fast 102s near the lower right area of the throttle body flange? It's behind the threaded insert. I received three of them with the same issue.

I contacted Fast and they said the crack causes no issues or vacuum leaks. What do you guys think?

Doesn't look like there's an issue there. If it is the hole directly behind the TB, outside of the seal, then I don't see an issue. It just seems like it allows the bolt to not bottom out.

Yes, the hole is behind the throttle body.

My 102 didn't have that issue. You say you've had three with that problem?

yea that's pretty shitty if you got 3 with the exact same crack. has to be a defect in the mold. even if it causes no issues, that's still crappy for a new product. Although I can say I had a issue with my first 102 also.

Once I installed it and turned the key for the first time I had a horrible vacuum leak. turns out he upper shell where it bolted to the lower shell by the right rear injector had somehow bowed out. Comp could not explain what had happened to it and determined it was not from over torqueing anything, and they actually sent me a brand new manifold free of cost once I shipped the other one back.

Exactly. I asked for one without the crack and they said they all have one.

Did yours have a crack on it?

I would just rub a dab of JB weld over it and call it a day if they said it's normal

Mine doesn't look like that and I had one of the first batches that came out in 2009. I have the machine thread plug out the back, so mine doesn't look like that.

the fit/quality of the FAST 102 intake SUCKS imo. especially for the price they ask. have you ever seen a 102 intake under boost? it flexes and buckles like a lung with a turbo around 5psi. heard of it doing the same on large N/A combos. even heard of one blowing to pieces under around 20psi. too bad you car guys cant fit much under the cowl/hood without cutting up the car.

Bingo, I mean if you are going to totally bend us over on price, your product better be perfect out of the box.

No mine did not have said crack your talking about. It did blow out the right rear corner by the back injector where the 2 shells meet though and caused a nasty vacuum leak.

It looks like they are trapping gas in the mold during injection. It's a sign of poor quality control due to poor injection process control.

It may not make a difference, but it sure isn't a good selling point.

edit - alternatively, if the gas trap is behind an over molded insert, then possibly they have a venting issue at the insert where the gas would have normally escaped previously. Either way, the gas still shouldn't be trapping.

I was told by Fast that the hole/crack is caused by machining when the threaded insert is installed. The mold is pretty thin on that corner, maybe that's why it goes through. If you look closely, you can see the yellow colored threaded insert in the picture.

I've had zero issues and fitted and looks great, but I'm N/A. Maybe they paid attention more early on. If I did have to do it over though, I'd leave my ported LS3 with a 92 on it. I wouldn't leave the 102 if I went FI.

If they did not have problems with the early intakes either they lengthened that sleeve or thinned out the casting in that area. Either way, I would not be happy about that. Maybe at 20% off, but not for what they cost.

It doesn't look like it would cause an issue though as far as a vac leak, but if the tb bolt was over tightened it could crack.

For the amount of money they charge for these manifolds, every last one should be the example of perfection in every way.

If my manifold looked like that, I'd send it back and demand one without the defect.
