Default Help Identify Water Pump / Thermostat Housing

So I have a waterpump which I believe to be a LS2 Pump on my LSX race motor (Came with original motor dont ask lol). I am looking at swapping my Tstat to a lower temp one but to my dismay I see what looks like a motorad tstat thats for an LS1 on the pump.

Could the pump be a replacement LS1 Pump or is it an LS2? It clears my FAST 102 and NW 102 TB. Just curious what you think.

And yes I cant see the numbers on it hence why Im asking

Thanks!

Pic shows an LS1 thermostat housing (has cast post for supporting subharness) which only fits in an LS1 pump (wings holding thermostat are too wide to fit in LS2/LS3 pump).

So ls1 pump then as well? That's strange because on an ls1 pump the intake won't clear (fast 102)

LS1 water pump is a one piece unit, the LS2 has a removable thermostat housing

Both LS1 and LS2 pumps have removable TS housing....!?!

The LS1 housing+thermostat is 1-piece and does not physically fit into an LS2 pump because the tabs are too wide... so by elimination that must be an LS1 pump.

The LS2 housing+thermostat is 2 piece (does not have the 2 tabs to contain the TS).

What I meant to say was the thermostat is connected to the housing as a one piece unit

The thermostat in the pic in post #1 above is the thermostat on the left in this pic:

the housing tabs that hold the thermostat element are too wide to fit into the LS2/LS3 pump... so this 1-piece thermostat only fits into the LS1 pump.

Very interesting so apparently there is an ls1 water pump that will fit with a fast 102 intake with no issue.

Can one run an ls2 pump and thermostat on an ls1?

Yes... but you need one with the correct pulley to match the car (F-car or Y-car)...
(or to put it in other words: no, you need specifically an LS1 pump, not an LS2 nor LS3 pump)

any replacement LS1 pump you can buy in the last 6 years has the correct pulley but takes the LS2 TS.

About two or three weeks ago a got a new ac delco ls2 pump that could take an ls1 or ls2 thermostat. It came with an ls2 thermostat, but I ended up using my old 160 degree ls1 thermostat. Inside the box there was a paper saying that either thermostat would work but I just had to use the correct gasket.
