Very disappointed with my dyno numbers please help
i just put my car on the dyno last night at school and only did 291 hp 298 tq.....
Attachment 457156
here is my car info:
2000 Camaro SS
A4 built with shift kit and baby 2400 stall
3:73 gears
TSP 1 3/4" LT headers
TSP 3" ORY pipe
custom cat back with 10 series flowmaster
LS6 intake with 36lbs injectors
MTIRacing ported and polished throttle body
ported and polished MAF
K&N ram air intake set up
SLP U/D pulley
and a street tune
i am going to install my 243 heads which will be getting ported and polished, ms3 cam and yank ss 3600 stall, but now I'm debating about going any further because I'm trying to pass the 400 rwhp, and so far i don't think the head and cam swap is going to help me that much with these numbers, my instructors at uti said that those are normal results because stock ls1 put down about 260 rwhp...????? but everyone on here claims that those mods should put me in the 350 rwhp range... unless I'm reading it wrong, so I'm confused and disappointed because i got clowned when i really thought id be above 330 rwhp when i didn't, and another thing that gets me is i raced a 331 stroker foxbody that claims he putting 350 rwhp and i took him by about 2 cars... so please if anyone can help me out with advice/info or see if the dyno wasn't set up properly, anything that can bring me to a better mood will be appreciated.

A dyno is strictly a tool. I wouldn't put all my faith in dyno numbers. If they are claiming they see 260 from ls1 cars on that dyno then your numbers are in line I'd say. It's just that dyno. Not all read the same. Hell the same one won't give the same results from day to day.
Check afr and timing, take it to the strip and run it. Trap speed doesn't lie.

My otherwise stock engine (with stock exhaust) made about the same numbers as yours did. With about 180,000 miles on the clock.
These numbers are a bit low for these engines but as stated above, dyno function can have an effect on the readings. These cars with the automatic should produce around 300 RWHP. I would think headers and no cats would help you see about 320 but you'd need a cam and tune to take full advantage of a better flowing exhaust.
What was the air temp when you did this? How many miles on it?

Yeah....for that air temp and vehicle mileage, your numbers aren't that far off. Just a bit on the low side but that's what these cars usually do. Anything in the range of 290~310 RWHP is the norm.
Consider the amount or wear piston rings/cylinder walls have and PCV oil contamination in the intake tract and possibly on the backsides of the intake valves slowing down the airflow.

lol that helped i also noticed that he cut my graph line at around 5250rpm which is about 1000 less before it shifts would that be his fault or does the program edit the final results

That's a step in the right direction. Get a proven package from one of our sponsors. Don't forget lifters, rockers with bearing trunnions, a FAST intake, timing chain, the list goes on.

probably similar. in 1970 engines were still rated on the gross system. so no air cleaner, exhaust, etc. in 1971 they switched to the net ratings so the engines were rated as it would sit in the car, complete. this was a big part of the hp ratings drop for 1971. lower compression was another. but the actual output wasn't nearly drastic as people thought it was.

IMO, it's nice a see the big dyno numbers, but all they are is reference numbers used to get your tune dialed-in for the best performance from you engine. With the way it performed against that Foxbody it sounds like your performance is about where it should be, don't sweat it!
Now if you really want to mess with the guy driving that Foxbody make sure you tell him you car only put out 291 hp 298 tq on a dyno, this will have him thinking something is wrong with his motor.
