Motor Mount hole stripped
Motor Mount hole stripped One of the holes on the block is stripped on the passenger side. I dunno how it happened. Will I be ok just having 3 bolts? If not, and I need an insert how in the world would I get a drill in there to do an insert. I don't want to remove the engine really. Any help is appreicated. It's been many hours chaning motor mounts and I'm in home stretch and now have this issue.
You really should try and do a thread repair. Heli-Coil (or similar) would probably be the easiest, since their installation tools are smaller than Time-Sert's. And Heli-Coil is a bit cheaper.
Getting a drill in there could be a royal pain. You'll need right angle drill, or a flexible shaft attachement. I don't have enough use for a right angle drill to justify the expense. But I do need one every now and then. So I bought an attachement from Sears for a lot less. So far, that has worked well for me.

On what side of the engine is the bolt hole stripped? Drivers side pulls up under a load and is more critical. Pass side just pushes down and shouldnt be a big deal if the 3 others are good. Is it just a stockish driver or a drag car with high hp?

I would try running a tap through the hole first and see if that fixes it. It cant hurt. I stripped the pedistal hole on my motor mounts and the helicoil and insert kit was 80+ dollars for me. I ended up buying an entire 50 piece tap and die set for 40 bucks, ran the right tap through and it worked. I didnt have enough room to use the tap handle tool in the engine bay, i used a racheting tool i use for air conditioners which was perfect.
