Are my motor mounts shot?

Are my motor mounts shot? I've been thinking of swapping out my motor mounts for the prothane ones. Is there a way to actually test if they are shot? I think I can feel some vibration going on the highway in 6th when my cam is near it's surging point... Could the mounts be the case? Are they impossible to change on your own on a 2000 SS that's been lowered 1.5" without having a lift?
Well when I installed my LTS my motor mounts where pretty much shot and I didnt notice any vibration before. Does your car already have LT'S or the stock manifolds? Beacause they have to come out of the way to replace the mounts. Might be a good time to put some LT'S on while you in thier if you still have the stock manifold's and a lift makes life easier but not a must have to do the mounts.

As you may know worn motor mounts will allow the engine to move more. This means less vibration transmitted to the frame/body. My motor mounts were shot after I installed my clutch. See how much your shifter moves to the side when you get on the throttle. I actually have solid motor mounts now. Exhaust did not need to be touched for replacement but I would recommend a lift.

Your mounts are probably pretty worn. You would only benefit by changing them out. I remember after the new clutch my car didn't feel right. Like it had less power or something. I figured out it was worn motor mounts with how much the shifter was moving. Good luck man!

Thanks! Yea I'm sure they are shot. Now that you mention it the car did feel different after my new clutch. I'll take a look at the mounts this weekend and see if it's something I wanna attempt on my own.

Verdad Gallardo They really are not that terrible to do just really time consuming, having a friend helph makes life easier trying to push and pry the motor in place.

I went to the track a few times and couldn't hook. My motor mounts and trans mount ended up being toast. I new something was up when I would do a slow wot roll. Felt like the whole motor and trans shifted under the car and made a small clunk noise. So I looked under the hood and watched the motor want to torque itself out of the engine bay after yanking the throttle. Replaced with poly mms and stock rubber trans mount. All better now.
IDK your mechanical background but its not a very hard job. Patience like anything.

IDK how a manuals trans mount is setup but when ever your motor mounts are shot it is a good chance the trans mount is shot also. You need to check that too. Check the torque arm bushing while your down there.

I replaced the transmission mount a few weeks ago. Made quite the difference but now I know the real culprit war the motor mount.

I guess the mounts were compromised already due to age and the heat from my LT's really did them in. Went with prothane mounts after that and what a different.
