Default Catback vs "Cheap"

I was just about to buy the TSP Rumbler catback because it sounds sweet. But then I was wondering why I am paying almost $300 for a $50 bullet muffler and a Y pipe? Couldn't I just buy a bullet for the I pipe and delete the muffler and have the shop replace it with a Y pipe or something in its place? Is the catback system's pipe way better flowing or something? What am I missing?

probly could have it done that way, but for ease of install and more importantly the fit, and finish a premade catback is worth it imo

Might be a larger diameter which would improve flow

You can buy a Dynomax intermediate pipe -- it's the same they use in their entire system. Then get the muffler of your choice and a tip or turn down and you've got it. It's mandrel and 3", and the muffler will mount in the stock location so as to not reduce ground clearance like the TSP with bullet does. There is a thread here from a month or so ago where someone lists all the part numbers.

I went with a TSP Rumbler because it was cheap; however, had I known beforehand that I could piece together the system, I would have just gone that route to save even more money.

Well what I was thinking was putting a Dynomax race bullet in the I pipe where it is on the rumblers, cutting out the muffler and having the shop use a Y pipe to re-connect the two tail pipe pieces where the muffler used to be. I already have the corsa clone quad tips to finish it off. That would give me the same-ish sound and performance of the Rumblers, no? Probably $150+ cheaper too.

I'd just buy that Ebay catback, but another option would be to buy WALKER Part # 54354-$87.79, WALKER Part # 53061-$59.79, and WALKER Part # 53365-$42.79.

Then all you would need is a couple of generic 90* bends for tail pipes.

I bought a used SLP LM1 axleback (it was the catback with the muffler section cutoff) for $50, and a dynomax bullet muffler for $50. I gotta get it welded together and installed which I am hoping won't cost me more than another $100. I am interested to hear how it sounds, apparently the dynomax bullets sound decent on these cars.
