Since German Castrol is gone.... (IT'S NOT!!)
When it's on sale in an oil change deal it's the same price as any other synthetic oil change deal.
What you're buying is not German Castrol.
What you're buying is not German Castrol.
Good catch!

It was my understanding the "Made in Germany" 0w40 European Formula oil meant it was made from a true synthetic base stock (hence why it was better than normal Castrol). What minimum research I did indicated nothing had changed which is why this thread's title alarmed me.
If that has indeed changed please post your findings.

The "current" German made Castrol 0W-40 oil IS a fully synthetic group IV/V oil.
Looks like we have a winner!

The Castrol 0W-40 was originally made in Belgium. I believe it was a group III blend.
Since the original 0W-30 that was made in Germany has ended, the 0W-40 was shifted over from Belgium. It looks like the group IV/V full synthetic oils are made in Germany.
One downside I'm seeing is that it's not listed on Autozone or Pep Boy's websites but I'm sure in time sources will be discovered.
