Exhaust Chirp????
Got the car buttoned back up after a cam (230/224) and 799 head install, and can't for the life of me figure out where the hell the exhaust chirp is coming from! Stock C5 Z06 Ti axle back. The exhaust had no such sound prior.
LG 1 7/8" headers into their catless X
Only happens at idle ( which is rough because I'm currently un-tuned), and appears to be only the passenger side.
Car runs great, just sounds like an angry bird is living in the exhaust at idle?
Driving me nuts!
Checked and nothing is hitting or rubbing.

A video will help if the sound can be heard on camera. You can try using a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to pinpoint the problem if you hear it coming from the engine bay. If it's coming from under the car or the rear my guess it is a heat shield or something that's squeaking from the increased vibrations.

I put the car back up, and checked everything. All bolts tight, sealed exhaust connections, re-torqued the headers. Starting to think it is just the way the exhaust pulses through the system. I even dis-connected the rear exhaust section thinking it could be a loose/broken component in the mufflers. The noise got worse with no mufflers? Guess I'll have to live with it?

I've heard similar that turned out to be oiling problems, valve train trouble etc. I looked at a mustang once that had a odd noise similar to this and I found some of the cam bearings were not lined up with the oil holes. Was running dry and some of the valves were squeaking. Can you hear it near the engine? Or just out the exhaust?
Try grabbing the exhaust cold and move it to see if it makes noise.

Tried everything I'm aware of? Every pulled the valve cover and rechecked the rocker arms. The sound comes from the passengers side exhaust pipe. Only happens at 1000 rpms or lower at idle 950? Could a lifter transmit sound through the exhaust? Weird because no sound present in the engine bay?
I don't know?

Can you use a large screw driver to track it down to which cylinder pipe? When you had the valve cover off could you see oil on every exhaust valve stem, nothing looked scored? Might want to look again. Do you have AIR system or check valves that could make noise?

I have another idea, just for grins pull the plugs on that side and check compression. Maybe a valve is leaking etc? Maybe a lifter is hanging a bit or push rod just a tad too long. I think the sound maybe compression gases sneaking by a valve.

I have a idea. Try disconnecting the fuel injectors 1 at a time on that side and then try 2 at a time that are side by side. You may have a cylinder head gasket leaking between 2 cylinders internally.

Wanted to follow up on this. Chirp is gone!!
I ended up making a custom axle back exhaust with two dynomax bullets, and a cross plate to help "fill the gap". Sounds much better.
Here is a vid

Having the exact same issue with my 02 z06! It almost sounds like the noise is still there even after your exhaust change? That or I'm hearing things... Did you ever pinpoint the issue? I'm assuming this may just be a loose baffle inside the muffler chirping? Any help would be appreciated. Pm sent
