Default Help! Bad Oil Leak

The car is a 2002 Trans Am WS6 with long tube headers. The car drips oil constantly about (1 drip per second) while running and it stops when the car is off. There is oil by the heads on both sides of the engine towards the rear when standing in front of the car.. I Reached behind the driver side valve cover and didnt feel any oil. I reached around where the oil pressure sending unit is and i felt some type of sticker on the back of the engine and it was bone dry (although i couldnt actually get my hands on the sending unit). Could this be my rear main seal? its leaking about a quart every 150-300 miles. Can a valley cover gasket thats bad do this? Thanks In Advance!!!

Nothing done recently. I only changed the alternator back in December if that helps. Not 100 Percent sure about the oil filter however its been on there for the past 4000 miles or so with no leaks. The oil leak developed within the past 2 weeks. I do have solid motor mounts also if that helps.

Well Just an update.. it is the oil pressure sending unit. I just wasnt reaching far enough.. probably because i had my coat on and couldn't get my arm deep enough.
Anyone whos done it without removing the intake.. i can see how it can be done but the electrical connector is a bitchhhh.. i cant get it off. Any Tips?

Honestly, I would pull the intake. You're just as likely to break the connector off the OPSU as you are to safely disconnect it. The intake isn't that bad to pull at all. Just watch those cowl screws - they bite.

If you pull the intake and its a nasty mess under there, that's the PCV. replace the valley cover with an LS6 valley cover, and it'll really clean up your engine bay, ditch alot of hoses. Honestly, some of that leak could be the PCV.

Back to square one... Got it changed. used a thicker piece of wire to get behind the clip while i pulled it up and off and slid the OPSU socket on and used a 3 or 4 inch extension and a flex head ratchet i got from harbor freight (gotta love cheap tools that come in handy!).

Fired her up and no leaks for abt a min which made me happy.. so i decide to blip the throttle... and boom... leak. I did the home made pcv hose mod with the fuel line hose and a y fitting because the stock plastic one broke and was clogged with crud. the hoses dont feel wet with oil. Could it Valley Cover Gasket? can it leak that much oil?

@V8r i didnt see your post till after i did it lol. But looks like im going to have to pull the intake anyway.

Look through the plastic opening where the starter is and shine a flashlight and see if the converter/flexplate has oil on it..

Might be a rear main seal/rear cover leak..

If it's ever had work done to it and it wasn't aligned properly that could be the cause..

Worth a check

The next most likely thing to leak is the cam position sensor. it's in the same spot as the OPSU, just the passenger side instead of driver's side.

It's not likely for the valley cover to leak, but anything is possible.

If you see a bunch of oil looking like it's leaking where the starter bolts up, that can be the crank position sensor or the cam position sensor. They have these little o-rings in them that you can't see until you pull the sensor out. You'll need to pull the intake to get the cam position sensor. Pull the starter to see the crank position sensor.

So, if you do what Burken says - pull the starter and find that there is oil in the bellhousing, but the cam and crank position sensors are dry - that is almost certainly either the rear main seal or the rear engine cover.
