I had a little chat with these fine folks today. I'm confidant their pumps flow more at a higher pressure.

They're soon to be doing a flow rate comparison between their modified LS pump and a stock one.

Meanwhile, I'm ordering one for my 5.3 truck as it's holding up a cooling system overhaul.

I'll post my impression of the pump and FlowKooler's flow results when they send them to me.

I installed it today. I don't expect to see any difference because the thermostat keeps the engine at 210. I'll know when I'm stuck in miles of traffic on a 95+ degree day with my A/C blasting.

Interesting working on these trucks....

Question

Any update on how the pump is doing to keep your truck cool? I'm experiencing cooling issues and I believe it to be from my stock unit not being able to move enough coolant through an iron block motor and a larger radiator.

Ive used their pumps before. Did one on my 521 BBF and it seemed to work very well. Their impeller deisgns are better than the edelbrock high flow versions (BBF world). The eddy's design actually decreased flow below 3k and only gained flow very high in the RPM range but helped more with cavitation where the stock pump would cavitate at like 4500rpms. Flowkooler's impeller was a different design (more blades and the shape of the blades) and they advertised 30% more cooling at idle and low RPM. On my street 521 engine temps were 175-185*F with a 180 Tstat in hot NJ summers. I would get another one (for the LS1) in a heart beat given my experience with them. Also most impellers are steel/iron and rust, the billet is nice for corrosion.

I run one of the flowkooler on my 5.3 and its worked flawlessly. I have a turbo 5.3 with lots of underhood piping and a 2400 stall that flashes to 3k so it gets HOT to say the least. I run a 160 tstat which opens at 170*F and a 31x19 AFCO racing 2 core aluminum rad with Derale dual spal 13" fans on a flexalite variable speed controller and I'm always in the 180s no matter the heat outside. In cooler temps 50-70s I can knock down 165-170*F on cruising and other low throttle situations. I got one after I sold my BFF and went turbo 5.3 (see my post #10 from 2016) and its worked great since I got it.

this is good to hear. I’m having a slight overheat problem at idle. I say overheat, the engine rises in temp at idle but if I give it a couple hundred more rpm the temps come back down. I know why. The cam I have is idling at only 675rpm and I have an under drive pulley. So it’s not flowing enough water at idle. Hopefully this pump helps that. I thought about machining a smaller pulley but I may not need to with this pump.

Never understood why people used underdrive pulleys.... they cause alot of headaches lol. I would rather just pulley down at the alt or whatever if you need to spin it faster but your SOL with the waterpump. Can you go back to stock on the crank pulley? I idle at 750 with my 218/228 cam but my crank pulley is stock truck.

i don’t like underdrive pulleys either. But I had no choice. When I did the turbo, I didn’t want to pull the engine out to get the oil pan out (gto) and weld a fitting. So I had to compromise, drain in the timing cover. With the stock pulley, I can’t get a hose to the fitting. So I had no choice.

It certainly is a cheaper option than a Mezeire, and is priced well enough that I would even forego a stock replacement.
