Default 20 Ls cathedral intakes tested!

Not sure if this has been posted already but hotrod just did this test. But most importantly they included all versions of a FAST and the MSD. Looks like the fast is still the best game in town until msd gets their qc and throttle bracket under control. Then after that it's a crap shoot

Very intersting test for sure. The GM truck intakes are pretty good for a factory peice. I was also a little disappointed that they did not test the Super Victor.

I was about to post this.

Richard Holdener does a thorough job testing. But the carb-style intakes really need a lot more overlap to work better. But all the plastic intakes have a cam that uses the 231/247 113 cam... which would be a good blower cam. Huge difference between the LS1/6 and the FAST 102. Damn.

Fast is still a very good intake, and the MSD is right there as well. Nice to see so much attention being paid to the cathedrals. They're still the way to go on smaller LS engines IMO

I have to agree I was surprised the fast was so much better. Makes me regret the money I spent on the BBK the first time. Also it would have been nice to see a cam closer to a NA cathedral port, but in the end it was a constant, so the comparison is valid.

What stood out to me is how well those heads breath. Look where the peak power was on most of the tests.

Other thing to note: that's not an ideal cathedral port cam. But that's sort of the point. You can throw almost anything into a cathedral port motor and it'll make power.

Those heads were AFR 230s... With a 230s duration cam and a FAST... damn near 600HP on a 370.

Actually Jake I would argue the AFR 230V2s are an Ideal head for that
Engine, it is the Cam that is TERRIBLE! For those (Any NA Cathedral)
Heads! +16* Exhaust Split!! +4-6* Exhaust at absolute most 8* would
Be what I believe Tony would spec for those heads NA.
Ie 231*/235*-237*

I meant cam. Not head. The cam has a 16 degree split.

Gee let's see, $550 for an old used LS6 or $250 more for a FAST/MSD that crushes it on setups from mild to wild......

Who woulda thunk that piece of plastic would be worth $100 more than a full set of 243 heads in 2015.

FAST is definitely worth the extra coin.

great article, I like that it also showed average hp/tq from 3000-7000 rpm. gives a good apples to Apple's comparison as to how different intakes make power under the curve. I was surprised to see that the old fast 78 was within 3-4 average hp/tq of the new msd, even though it was a difference of 20 hp up top.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well that hideous TBSS intake did. If I was going to use a factory intake, the TBSS is the one I'd get.

Honestly, I'm absolutely not surprised by how well the fast intakes did. There's a reason everyone uses them.

Very enlightening. If I wasn't sold on the FAST 102 before, I am now.

I wonder if the fast 102 would be worth it over my current LS6 with boost?

I would not be looking at a multi-piece intake for any boosted application.
