I wired my power source for my elec opener off of the cig lighter. The ground is actually down in the console area around the shifter somewhere. Just follow the wire off of the lighter.

Anyways, instead of cutting up a cord like that, why not just splice it into the cig lighter power wire? That way you don't have anything cluttering your shifter area.

i would just tap into the wire for the cigarette socket behind the dash and be done with it. just use a multimeter to make sure you have a SWITCHED 12 volt source and just splice into it. if you really want to go the other direction, on the adapter the "pointer" is the postitve..the spring loaded side clips are your ground. The clips touch the cigarette cylinder which is grounded by the wire on the back.

Is the cigarette lighter a switched 12v? I don't think it is. I know the power plug, for like chargers and stuff isn't switched. If it's not a switched 12v source, don't tap into it!.

I tapped into the switched power on the ASR switch. It's a big red wire that you can't miss. Just pop off the trim around the radio and the switch will some off connected to the trim. Easy to splice into and run wires down.

I got an unlighted switch w/ my McCord, there
is no power drawn when off. So I didn't need it
to be IGN / switched power. I wired mine from
the power seat feed.
