Do you see yourself doing heads, cam, intake? If so, don't spend money on a y-pipe you're going to throw away later. Do a true dual now and you won't have to upgrade later. Don't be afraid of doing a 3". It doesn't kill low end torque, that's mostly a myth. We have an abundance of torque and won't notice if a lititle goes missing. As far as noise, theanger diameter lowers the tone but it does increase the decibels. Just run an actual large case muffler and you will be happy. Don't forget an x pipe or an h. Absolutely required.

Otherwise, if you don't see yourself going beyond intake and exhaust, just get the higher quality y-pipe and call it a day.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the input. An LS6 intake is on its way. I may end up getting a cam as long as it works with my stock heads, but I'll bet you a Y-pipe that's all I end up doing.

Step 1 with a Y pipe: throw it in the trash.

Step 2: get a good x pipe dual system

OK guys. Tightwad here and considering true duals. I do love the idea of bolting it on my self in my driveway and not having to go to muffler shop. I am a machinist and can weld, so if something needs to be modified, I can handle that as long as pipe doesn't have to be expanded or bent.

Y-pipe is $130 and muffler shop said they would charge me $120 to run 3" from Y pipe to muffler. For $500 more I could have true duals. I'm considering this. What will be involved with bolting it up to Speed Engineering or TSP headers?

Most of the kits say "must bolt up to our header or you'll blow up the world" or something similar. I got the kooks non cated X to bolt right up to pace setter headers with no jerry rigging. And honestly not that much effort other than closing off exhaust leaks.

Vs the Y pipe moved HP peak 300 RPM higher. No loss midrange or down low that I could tell.

All that said, I can't weld for ****. So I'm sure you can do it with the right combination of stuff pretty cheap.

Yep everything bolts up very easily. Do the duals!
