Default sandy subtance in intake manifold?

Hi everyone,
I took my intake manifold off today, and I noticed that there is a sandy material in the intake runners of my heads, as well as inside my fast intake. Where do you think this is comming from? I believe there could be two options.
1. My engine is detonating itself to death.

2. Dirt is making its way through my air filter. My air filter is in a place where it could be exposed to road dirt

What do you think?

There is a reason why an oiled cotton filter flows beater then a paper filter it's because they don’t filter very well.

This is why I ditched my k&n filter and went back to a wix paper filter. Lose a few hp but rather do that then run crap through my motor

That puts me into a little bit of a pinch, this engine is swapped into a gbody monte carlo. So I really don't have a way to run a factory paper filter. Does anyone make a good quality paper cone filter?

AEM and Amsoil makes dry filters that might work. Does the car have EGR or is that blocked off?

There are FOAM overfilters for most of the K&N style, they work well and don't impact the air flow.

For race cars I go to http://itgairfilters.com/ Their filter foam (Still needs oiled) is like what most dirt bikes use, I've run them on dirt track cars and never had anything get through..

No connection just like the product.
