Question Question/Help W/Exhaust Upgrade WITH Center Mount Exhaust

I realize that I'm, more than likely, going to get flamed for this because.... Well, there's countless, I mean Hundreds and Hundreds of Threads on Exhaust.

However, this question is for those that have the Factory 345HP Center Mount Exhaust.

Currently, my SS Camaro has;
  • Kooks 1 7/8 Long Tube Headers
  • Kooks High Flow Race Cat's
  • SLP Loudmouth 1 (LM1)
  • Factory Center Mount Exhaust

Just like everyone else that has come before me, the minute you put LT's on, with the SLP LM1, the Exhaust now sounds horrible. It's extremely Raspy and the Drone inside the car is unbearable.

Here's my Question for EVERYONE that can provide a solution. What Muffler would you recommend, but would also allow me to maintain my CME. That is what is most important to me.
  • Would you simply add a Muffler & keep the SLP Bullet Type Glass Pack?
  • Would you get rid of the SLP Bullet Glass Pack and replace it with another Manufacture?
  • Would you get rid of the SLP Bullet Glass Pack and install a Muffler and that's it?

If you're wondering what "sound" I'm going for- I'd like a deeper tone, trying to eliminate the "rasp" and drone you hear in the car.

Thank You for all the input- I truly appreciate it!

Carl

I would get rid of the SLP LM1 and get a quieter, better sounding bullet that isn't pure noise.

Look at Magnaflow, Moroso Spiral Flows, Borla, etc. All of these will sound tamer and have better tone and eliminate a lot of the drone/rasp.

Thank you! I was considering the Borla or the Magnaflow Bullet; however, I wasn't sure how much improvement it would be over the LM1.

Do you have any experience with either one? I appreciate your feedback.

I love the way mine sounds with the factory CME muffler,
cam and headers (have had both long tubes and shorties)
and no cats. Sounds hot but gets no po-po hassle, no rasp
etc. But I'm guessing that piece has left the building?

Unfortunately when I bought my SS from the Original Owner, the Muffler was already gone, they never made it my building (Ha Ha). All I had was the LM1 with No Muffler.

It didn't sound bad..... Until I added the LT's. Then all bets were off.

I'm considering ditching the LM1 for the Magnaflow 14419. How many people have ran that, without any muffler?

I'm convinced it cannot sound as loud and raspy as the LM1..... Ha Ha!!

Had both the SLP loudmouth I & II and they both sucked! I went with a borla XR1 muffler. Good deep sound and no rasp!

How do you plan on waking the dead when the time comes? I have a
Dynomax muffler #17227 and Magnaflow 14419 (welded in the I-pipe) on mine but I also have dual DHM cutouts on the Y-pipe so that when I need to send a message, it gets sent.

That is a very good question.... When the time comes to wake the dead- I'll simply get out my 1969 RS/SS Camaro.

Ah, well in that case please disregard my earlier suggestion. I did not realize such a machine was at your disposal and that such fury could be unleashed!

Last time I tried to send a message to a 1969 RS/SS with my car, it "fell on deaf ears" so to speak.

I have heard plenty of cars with Magnaflow bullets.

They are among the tamest bullets that have a deep growl, but honestly tone down some of that brutal V8 exhaust note.
If you want in your face exhaust, maybe look at at Borla.

Borla has a very nice sound to it, but is a bit louder and "uncorked".
I have Moroso spiral flows on my full exhaust (LT's, X pipe, cats, true duals) and it is a nice moderate volume with great tone.
Zero drone.

I vote magnaflow for more sanity, Borla for more roar, Moroso for a good middleground.

Thank you for that info! I truly appreciate it. I'm leaning towards the Magnaflow only because my Wife enjoys "Davin" as much as I do.... And well, we have our 3rd Little One due in September. Our other two our 13 & 11, so the noise won't bother them. The infant..... Not so much.

Dude that is one slick looking and CLEAN F body!

With that out of the way let me say if I had the LM exhaust already, there is no other option I would think about other than the one below.

They used to have a video of the loudmouth vs the powerflo on the same car and it makes a big difference
