Default Vacuum pump for ls1 fbody anyone?

As I'm wrapping up my bolt ons I'm going to try a vacuum pump. It's not a waste of money for me as I'm building a radical 402 llsr. So why not try a vacuum pump now?

Does anyone one have experience with one?

Has anyone tried the GZ motorsports kit?

I have a couple pics. I'll find. Yes, fairly easy to install. One thing you find out is that the pump will not fit with the A/C accumulator in the stock position. You have to remove the bracket, from the accumulator, so it can be moved to clear the vacuum pump. It's a pretty tight fit with A/C. Ended up fabbing a bracket for the accumulator to hold it.

If you even have A/C lol.

I do but I'm pulling it and going to a manual steering rack and electric water pump. Basically alternator and vacuum pump only.

Thanks for the pic. Did you ever do a before and after dyno? Did it feel different? I know you've done many things to your car.

No problem. Never did a back to back on the dyno. I could definitely feel a difference. The first things I noticed were the engine actually ran better. Noticing at lower rpms it helped with the little bucking I got. Makes the engine feel a bit smoother. I seriously don't want an engine without crankcase vacuum. Definitely worth it to me.

Makes sense to me. I'll dyno mine after I do the conversion but it'll also have just the alternator so it won't show just the vacuum pump.

Well. I'm not daily driving the car anymore. But I use it regularly. Off the top of my head I think the pump has been on for 2 years. Maybe 15k miles. Zero problems. If I start to see a difference in vacuum the pump can make. I'll just send it in for a rebuild. Last I checked $75 for rebuild & test.

I seen Rick's set up. Looks nice. I have the GZ kit but need to install it. I have AC and EWP with no tensioner.

I think I'm going to go with the GZ kit after hearing all the good things about it.

Thanks Mike. Glad to hear you got a pump. So what are you thinking on mounting it/pulley drive since you don't have the tensioner?

I showed them my set up so they worked with me and sent something that should work with what I have. I have not had time for the car and just had to put a rack in it. I will try install soon. I think they are worth a tenth and MPH on most cars.

Nice. Like to see it once it gets done.

Be cool to meet up again. Pretty sure I'll be going to No Guts No Glory in December.

Did the vacuum pump have any effect on oil pressure if used with a wet sump oil pan?
